The plane was fresh off of an 18-year restoration and may never fly again.

IIRC, this is the type of aircraft flown by President G.H.W. Bush during his U.S. Navy Service in WWII.

More importantly: It was a CHEAP fix! And I learned a lot.

I even subsequently welded up a Jeep XJ unibody rail with that $100 Harbor Freight welder. Turned my worthless XJ into a daily-driver!

It’s the fault of GM that the shitty wheels ended up on production vehicles, full stop.

I worked close with metal foundaries for a part of my job (I was responsible for production machining cast parts).
