Sadly it does not. Remember, the hit-and-miss designs are 100+ years old: there are no sensors or anything. (The water reservoirs don’t even have drain plugs.) The operator simply had to keep an eye on the water level and top it up as necessary.
I’ve never seen one under a significant load, but they probably do sound really good. Most of the ones I see running are just turning the flywheel or pumping water in an endless loop for demo purposes.
