this is only meant to replace the entry-level Roamio. I imagine a higher-end version is in the works and might not share the design, similar to how the top-end Roamio has a different hardware design than the entry model.

it’s basically a wash if you swap out the cost of most cable company’s HD DVR. Plus, the current TiVo boxes have most of the major streaming services integrated, so you really don’t need to use something else on top of your DVR — there’s little reason to shuffle between your DVR and a Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV,…

Actually, per the article’s comment about Cox and Xfinity, they just enabled On-Demand and Pay-Per View if you have those providers. And it’s working right now on my TiVo Roamio and my TiVo Premiere. As for why it took this long or isn’t more widespread, blame the cable companies who want to rent you a box, not TiVo.…
