Try driving a carbureted engine with no choke and high compression on Winter gas. Takes a little fiddling with the carb to get it to run just right. Partially the air temps, partially the fuel, but to get the best performance and driveability, I always have to jet up a size when the temperature drops. Cold starts…

My dad has had an E39 540i for 14 years and it has held up incredibly well. Granted, he's only put about 115,000 miles on it, but he replaced parts preventatively (radiator plastic inlet breaks ~6 years, plastic handles ~70k miles, fluids, etc). I drive it when I'm home and my friends still can't believe it's a 14…
