I had a similar experience with my Miata. Previous owner had put some crap no-name tires on it, which were replaced with Toyo T-1Rs. Not as much grip as the Star Specs, but a lot more than the crap tires.
I'd go with extreme summer performance for track, since they are still manageable in the rain and grips even better in the dry, compared to PSS. That or go all out and use R-compound on separate set of wheels....
The toyobaru guys at my local auto-x are all pretty much running star specs or a similar type of tire and seem to be doing pretty damn well in their respective classes. Sticky tires + lightweight RWD = win in my book
Yeah, but on a street car those prius tires are a hell of a lot of fun. My Miata got a lot faster with Star Specs, but there's something to be said for all-seasons that let you get the car loose any time you want without going so fast that you're endangering anyone.
I've never once owned a set of Michelin tires, in all my years, and all my cars.
Be careful. You may just make it boring.
Personally I think it very unwise. My theory being this:
