What would you pick: A car with rubber tires and no seat belts, or a car with wooden/steel belted wheels with seat belts?

Tires allow you to move from left to right, you know, avoid accidents...

Now imagine the number of crashes if no one had tires...

Tires, hands down. At first they were rolling on wooden (or steel belted wooden) wheels, with no traction at all.
No matter what subsequent safety feature appeared past that, nothing made the automobile safer than having rubber tires.
Just imagine trying to brake or turn on ANY car without tires...
