When I take off for the weekend to go have sex with my boyfriend, no one will call CPS on my cats. Thus, one of the reasons I have them and not children.

I have no children, when people talk about their kids I will respond with talk about my pets for one of two reasons 1) I am trying to relate and since I don't have kids dog talk is all I got 2)revenge, bore me with endless stories about your kids and I will bore you with endless stories about my pets.
Maybe not, but for pets are the closest thing to children some people will ever have. It makes sense to inflate the importance of that relationship.
You can't leave a child alone whilst you go off to work, that's what swung having a dog for me.
Kids poop without regard or control until they are old enough and trained otherwise, they eat pre-made food out of cans and jars, they don't know they shouldn't run in front of cars, they respond well to positive reinforcement, and they are crated when they are bad or the parent needs to get something done, except in…
I didn't know that Augusten Burroughs quote! Thanks!
Yeah, I re-read Brave New World this year and I was like wait...I would be able to have an artificial womb carry a baby, have unrelenting sex, and sedate myself for days at a time? Where do I sign up!
I just posted this as a response to someone else, but I think you would appreciate it so I'll repeat myself. When I was pregnant with my first and they asked me to draw the 'perfect birth' so I drew myself in a hammock sipping margaritas. The baby was being birthed elsewhere. An artificial womb would have made my…
Yeah, I think it's pretty gross.
The only way I would ever even consider having kids is if I could put them elsewhere at my convenience, starting with the womb being outside of my body.
Well, people can have children the usual way, or they can adopt slightly older children from the foster system. As someone who grew up in an abusive home, it sucks to see people put so much energy into insisting on genetic purity when there are so many children at need.
As someone currently waddling painfully around her office while 36 weeks pregnant, because she doesn't want to start her maternity leave clock a second sooner than she has to...WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY ARTIFICIAL WOMBS?
Sincere thanks to the tech and product people — both New Yorkers and Hungarians — for working tirelessly and staying up until the wee hours to deal with this. Köszönöm.
On Monday, we posted an open letter to the management of Gawker Media, our parent company, regarding an ongoing…
Exactly the heart of the matter when people say, "Well why don't you say something and stick up for yourself?" Because of crap like this.
Actually, on Jezebel a far more common question is 'why don't men standing by intercede?' and I think this is a better answer to that more frequent question. While women are justifiably more aware than men of the risk of sexualized violence in public, men tend to be more aware of the threat of generalized…
And men wonder why we 'don't just stand up for ourselves'
Cat calling men usually get exactly what they're really after: a woman is demeaned and threatened, and the man feels like he has a pathetic modicum of power.
This is precisely why women are scared of standing up for themselves when being cat called. Not only can harassers go ballistic like this, but they also, usually, cowardly "travel" in large packs.
But, but, but! Aren't men always telling us that catcallers are doing us a favour and aren't at all dangerous and likely to harm us?
