Wow, interesting to learn there is a collectible market out there for vintage MTBs. I wonder what my mid ‘90s Garry Fisher would go for these days! I bought it new in college and have never let it go. Still a pleasure to ride and just never found enough reason to upgrade, despite the mediocre performance of the Rock

I don’t recall what I sat in as a baby, but as a tot in the mid ‘80s, I have fond memories riding around in this thing. It was more like a booster seat, but the lap belt secured it in place and closed. No LATCH system needed. I had plenty of freedom to look out the window or whatever.

Not related to the subject of the post, but is Alibaba or Changli going to send you a replacement fender flare for the one damaged in shipping (shown it title pic)? Or, is the flare part of the whole metal quarter panel stamping?

I get it, though I think it would have been even more appropriate/amusing to use the worst, dumbest-looking, knock-off of Calvin that you could find to complete the weirdness factor of this whole thing, and to match the oddness of the OEM decals and the sense that this whole contraption came from a parallel universe.

I’m sure he’d take it as a loaded question.

In my personal experience, the good ones are turning a blind eye. I posted up in the thread about losing a cop friend over this.

Hell, even if they feel justified (they weren’t) in disabling vehicles in a fashion that can’t be remedied on the spot they could have snipped/crushed the valve stems with bolt cutters (probably something found in most cruisers). Still requires a tow, but at least the tires aren’t ruined.

Just had a falling out with a lifelong friend over this last week. He’s cop in a metro area and at first we had good report: I messaged him wishing him safety and told him I would also be downtown protesting against systemic racism and the death of George Floyd. He messaged back with support and that Chauvin deserved

What a delightful stroll this article has been, and great photos, too.

Yeah, most likely applauding the decision publicly while secretly subscribing to her account. “Doth protest too much” etc.

You might have gotten a bum unit or something. I have a unit (different brand but equally generic that I purchased through a similar deal), that sat in my truck for more than one month. I used it to jump a car a few days ago. It was at 100% battery when I turned it on and dropped to 75% (per the 4 LED indicators)

Same. Although I like the look of the wings alright—nothing wrong with a bit of whimsy, I’ve long imagined how awesome it would be to see the fenders and wheels bobbing while driving around from the driver’s seat of a Caterham.

Would having less DF-type aero and being more slippery overall also make for less “dirty air” in its wake? And, would having less dirty air behind the cars in general make racing safer for all the drivers? Would it make passing maneuvers more likely or less likely?

This is super helpful information. Prevention of such harassment was notably missing from the article.

Jason!

If they make a model with a small pickup bed, I bet that could be a successful venture! I was completely smitten with the bare-bones Nissan pickup we rented down there (for a dive vacation, of course!), but I also know and enjoy driving stick, unlike most of the other Americans in our party. And, with many divers also

I can’t speak to what island featherlite resides on, but having driven a little jelly bean-esque Suzuki Alto in Turks & Caicos (and a diesel Nissan pickup in Bonaire), 35mph is PLENTY for scooting around a smallish island. The roads are often narrow, twisty, and full of surprises like tourists or stray dogs or

“...for Adults.” Clearly, this was a necessary addition not just to the official vehicle description, but the official name of the vehicle! LOL

Anybody know what was eventually done to make these events safe(ish)? I’m curious how they (evidently) made it so the high pressure boilers didn’t explode so bomb-like. I would guess they modified them to have blow-out panels or strategically weakened some part of them so that they failed in a more controlled manner
