“We humans are so small and weak compared to modern jets.”

My father taught me this at 16 and I’ve never forgotten it. I suppose it’s served me well as I’ve never been hit or run off the road by truck.

Why do I get the feeling that prospective competitors will be required to submit their measurements as part of the application process (“it’s for your Nomex suit sizing, trust me sweetie”), and that the podium ceremony may or may not involve a wardrobe change to an evening gown and there will be a championship tiara

Reminds me of this episode:

Ha! My family stayed in an old hotel in NYC once and the fire alarm went off late at night. There was no announcement following and the alarm stayed on continuously. Trying to do the right thing, my dad lead the family out the window to the steel fire escape on the side of the building, but the ladder thing that drops

Wow. I will be sure to pay closer attention to emergency signage next time I’m in a high-rise. Still, in the case of this West London fire, initial reports seemed to show that those who ignored the stay-put instruction and fled are the ones who made it out alive. I guess you have to make the choice to put your faith

Very interesting, and that 2009 incident does sound similar. Thanks for the reply.

I was really surprised when I read that the standing safety instruction for the building was to “shelter in place” in the event of a fire. I’ve never lived in a high rise, but I’ve been in numerous high-rise hotels and I’ve NEVER seen signage indicate staying put if you hear a fire alarm. How common is this? It would

Agree with you on everything except potentially the social media snooping. For me it really comes down to this statement: “Natalie’s Facebook pictures aren’t exactly public, either.”

I have a co-worker who recently named his youngest “Cash Cadillac”—that’s first and middle names. So, I didn’t really blink at that one.

Does this only apply to cars on the lot? I pre-ordered my BRZ in 2012 because, well, that’s the car I wanted and they didn’t exist on any dealer lot. I didn’t feel like I had a damn bit of leverage in that situation, and had never purchased a new car before, so I paid sticker (I did get fantastic financing though).

I remember that interview, but must also acknowledge that the designers can say all they want but if the marketing department or big-wig executives march into the engineering office and tell them their customers demand more power... you know who wins that argument, right?

I’ve been binging ST:TNG for, oh, the last month or so. Chalk it up to the current national and global political climate, but it’s been a wonderful escape for me. I started out just hitting the gems and top-rated eps but by season 5, I was just watching in serial. I liked it in the 90s and revisited maybe 7-8 years

I don’t lock it, but I’m also not foolish enough to leave the keys in the ignit....OH, wait, this car probably has keyless ignition, and the key fob was probably sitting in the center console or in her purse, just like my wife does with hers.

Hasn’t reprocessing batteries been a major part of Musk’s master plan and the Gigafactory from the beginning? I recall reading about this years ago. What am I missing and why is this news?

Super well-built, and made in USA!

The very fact she refers to it as “9-5" indicates to me she never worked a day job. Where in the USA is 9:00AM to 5:00PM a standard workday anymore? 8-5 has been the standard at every job I’ve had since graduating college.
