Nope, read her post again and still not seeing it, just her talking about how she knows how to shoot and then a few safety measures which seem consistent with everything I've ever been told about safe gun ownership.

Yeah, I was waiting for this to go somewhere too. The multiple parallels to rape culture also seemed pretty unnecessary, so I spent the whole article wondering if Hugo was struggling to find a point to make.

Ignorance? She says she knows how to shoot, and seems to understand gun safety, which bit of her post displayed ignorance?

Remember that crotch-gun in "From Dusk Till Dawn"?

As a non-musical person I don't think real conducting looks realistic. They keep going too early and aren't moving their arms in time with the music at all!

If you have a problem with guilt then be prepared for when everyone starts telling you that you have to forgive the people who did this to you. They will tell you that you are doing it "for yourself", in order to "move on" and all sorts of other bullshit that will only make you feel more guilty when you can't, or when

"many pregnant students were tortured but kept alive until they gave birth only to have someone in the military "adopt" the baby after it was born."

Your link in turn made me think of this: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/08/11/080811fa_fact_grann

I was going to bring up OJ but I did remember that the prosecution supposedly bungled things, so the jury can't be blamed for that one. I suppose how much blame you are willing to put on a jury depends on how much responsibility you put on the other parties to make them understand the case properly.

I agree that this guy got what he deserved, but the whole "the jury know better than you" argument never sits right with me. I've heard too many horror stories, on Jezebel and elsewhere, of juries getting it so very wrong. For a pertinent example there was the NYC cop who allegedly raped that woman and the jurors

It says something about the level of gawker spam that I saw a dollar symbol in your post and immediately started to skim past.

Two posts and you are already my favourite Jezebel commenter SOUNDEFFECTSBOT.

No, because as others have pointed out there are other physical advantages to being male. The point is that being on hormone treatment for an extended period of time seems to ameliorate those advantages. Maybe I was mis-reading you, but I got the impression that you were stating that size alone would provide too much

No, sorry, you're comment just reminded me of how annoying MMA commentary can be. I think you're right, I'm just sick of Jimmy Smith describing half the Bellator fighters that way! No offense meant, just me ranting randomly.

So how would you tell if she was underperforming on purpose?

OK, I can see what you're getting at when it comes to safety. Combat sports do seem like an area where there's a lot of risks, so more information is needed to protect the fighters. If Fox is capable of smooshing her opponents into a fine red paste I guess they would want to know in advance! I guess I feel like that

OK, but how much stronger would they be if those men had hypothetically been on hormone treatment for 2+ years? Do you know? I don't. But what I'm saying is that size alone isn't a factor in MMA, which equalist seemed to be implying.

I'm not disagreeing with you that fight experience is an advantage, I'm asking whether a fighter is normally expected to disclose information about their physical condition (other than height/weight/reach), which is what you seem to be implying Fox should have done. If that's not the case for other fighters then I

I get what you're saying, but this article is about MMA, which has weight classes. A fighter who is taller has to cut more weight and reduce muscle mass in order to qualify for their division. Height/reach don't come into it. I don't know what other effects there are from being born physically male, but size shouldn't

"Dogwhistles" then, probably. Moderators get very adept at spotting (hearing?) them. FYI, referring to women as "females" seems to be one of them, so tread lightly fellow male!
