Doesn’t Cid join the party, storywise, right before Temple of the Ancients? I know there is a stop at the Golden Saucer first, but I get why he isn’t playable. He’s probably going to get similar screen time as Red in Remake.

She probably has the third or fourth most lines in the game. She plays a *substantial* role in the plot of a game series known for long, drawn-out, and fully-voiced cutscenes.
Oh I definitely agree that something else is up, and the devs have already said it’s not a 1:1 remake. I just think it’s too early to say definitively what that twist is. It makes for some fun speculation, though!
Also that’s interesting that you read those whisper things as Kadaj/Loz/Yazoo- I thought they were some…
We’re arguing semantics here. It’s not been confirmed by the developers or the canon itself that it’s a sequel and what you’ve just written here is your interpretation, making it, yes, a fan theory. It very well could end up being the case! But as of right now it’s a fan theory.
EDIT: And I frame it this way because…
It absolutely is a fan theory. The only thing Remake established is that there are two timelines, Beagle and Terrier.
I’m not saying it won’t come to pass that way and there are certainly things going in favor of the theory, but nothing is confirmed.
It’s a fan theory, it’s not confirmed. In fact, Normura had a quote this week that said the end of this trilogy will still lead into Advent Children, or something to that affect.
Edit: the quote is:
“If you play right through to the end, it will link up [to Advent Children] so you don’t need to worry about that,” he…
Aerith’s death was a critical moment in the narrative. Not sure why people would have a problem with that, other than “oh hey I really liked this character”
As for Zack, he was barely in the original game. It seemed intentional that we don’t learn a lot about him other than the one flashback. I’m a little worried…
I disagree with the idea that the slavery issue is set dressing. The first two-thirds of the game focuses pretty heavily on the conflict with the bearers. That it almost entirely disappears in the third act feels like a significant omission on the writers’ part, not evidence that it wasn’t a core component of the…
This was an incredibly well-reasoned criticism of the game, and expresses issues I had with the experience as well. Rest in peace as they will now be coming for you.
This article has an amazing typo that I am going to start using as an insult. “discocunt”
Is Harvestella going to be the first farm sim where you kill god?
That ending is setting up Nomura to turn this into KH3 levels of bad storytelling.
He really didn’t, though. The moment that really sticks out right now, having not played it in a while, is him talking to Yuffie about motion sickness on the Highwind. He becomes a lot more pleasant with the main cast after Mideel.
The “shit” when the ladder breaks already makes her so much more relatable.
Maybe not in this game, but in the original Cloud changes pretty dramatically later in the story, and for story reasons.
This is the first time I’ve really FELT the delay. I was so excited to spend my kid’s spring break playing this with him *sigh*
I am very much here for Cloud Frog with Buster Sword. Also, that last shot of the ruins of Sector 7...damn this is looking great.
I can understand not liking FFVIII, it’s definitely an acquired taste that I have to be in the right mood for, but FFIX is a god damned masterpiece (and I love FFX, too).
This guide is so perfect- no spoilers and a really good breakdown of pros and cons. Thanks for this, Heather!
