Ho geeze... And to think that the G-wagens were originally developed as absolutely bullet proof off-road machines.

I think by that time we're heading into "increase in production cost" territory, and Toyota knew that they had to get the best bang for the buck to dodge the "V6 Mustang" bullet.

*Goes to youtube, searches*

Let me get this straight...

Same here, Mexico would be chips even compared to Hungary.

... I don't get it.

3rd: *Sighs* Yep, the cars being made in Hungary is definitely the deciding factor in the low prices.
I looked around real quick in the main article, and the fellow even mentions that with out that move, it would've not been possible.

Engine will definitely cost a penny, so does the body as there are a lot of high quality/light components used.

Ya know that's not exactly some thing that's good... :P

For the most of the points, those actually pretty cool ideas, and dimming tech not whitstanding not too bad to achieve it! Even camless I could kinda-sorta see it happen, however it's a matter of integration and patenting.

"How big of a market?"
Yap, freakishly tiny, even smallerĀ  than the people pleading for diesel Subarus in the US. :D

"[Europeans] they just want the 'tough' look and the extra ground clearance to not strain their worn out hip joints too much."

After a bit of thinking, if I had the 21K to buy this car, yeah, I think i'd go for it.

Ya know, a race engineer I know said that just the other day.

Uhm...

Ya know, I've been eyeing those little buggers. Didn't know that it had a 1.9L. :D

+25K to spend on it... Sheesh, that's a lot of Spec stuff.

Yep... I had the same pleasure back in '07 when I was looking for a hatch/liftback car with great mileage. Needless to say I went with my '98 Civic hatch for $5K instead of a Golf TDI for ~$12K. =\

Yo, fist bump for double feature on the TDI! :D

VW Golf Mk5 TDI
Original price: ~$20,000
Today: ~$10,000 minimum
Ah, yes, the TDI. Why the TDI instead of the R32? Simply as it is very economical, and has pretty good power with the diesel it's got. Fine, it's not as fast as say... A Lotus, it will definitely move along though.
