Article was a nice perspective, but ultimately biased. Game art is art. It's expression. In context of Dragons Crown, the art draws back to an exaggeration of pulp fantasy. Barbarians and scantily clad big busted girls in chains. This is the universe the game is set in, and the characters are indicative of that.

First of all, calling Kamitani an "immature asshole" because he posted a picture of men for Jason Schreier is a bit far, don't you think. By that logic, Schreier is equally an immature asshole for calling Kamitani a 14 year old in the first place.

When I wrote my post I assumed kamikki was being sarcastic. I still think that since this article was nothing but backpedaling they could have chose a pic that didn't have cleavage in it; instead it seems like the pic was chosen for 'well MEH its still sexist because breasts'

That's true. I know bosoms in art are a choice but you could easily say a woman like myself, who is "hefty" up top is an offence to women, some flat chested people might join you on that. You have to question is it an issue because there are no flat chested characters? Or why do we even care, I would be most happy if

Yes strenuously.. like the the associations you are asserting right now. Objectification, sexualization.. these are real problems that women face, true. But you can't just boil down individual situations that make up a complex trend and make claims like that and expect people to consider that thoughtful or rational

Yes its funny that they used this pic with that headline. They could have used any other without blatant cleavage, but no, let's stir the shitpot some more.

So women with big tits are sex objects, no matter what, and are detrimental to other women, because this probably straight, entitled, white male says so. Yes.

His elaborated opinion strenuously tied this character sprite to the difficulties women face in the workplace. I'd hardly call that thoughtful or worth reading. It's brainless sensationalism or just plain old massive ignorance all the way through.

Thanks! I'm the original writer that RPGFan was reposting 'cause I was asleep on the other side of the planet hahah.

If you'd like to see more writing like that, check out www.art-eater.com it's a blog I run with my brother, we're both in the games industry and have art backgrounds, so we have a lot to share about art

Thankyou! RPGfan kindly reposted my words while I was asleep on the other side of the planet :)

I've added my own response to this article... but a lot of it is a repeat of what's already written here, hahah.

If you like articles on games that are informative and (relatively, I try..>)

How can you say they breasts on the Sorceress are sexualized? How exactly, other than by being large and prominently displayed, are they sexualized?

Now playing

Now on that issue of women in games, here's something to educate folks on the history of Vanillaware...

Hi Jason, now I know you have good intentions, but you really disrespected George Kamitani and Vanillaware. You have an opportunity to apologize like a gentleman, but instead you pig headedly dig in.

Well, isn't it a power fantasy? How is it appropriate to assume that all guys want an eight-pack and tree-like biceps plus a huge warhammer, but when somebody suggests that women might want to have fit bodies, curvaceous figures, and the ability to murder people with their mind they have gone too far?

You can be as sarcastic with it as you want, if that is indeed your point here. However, honestly, I don't want to play as any of the male characters in Dragon's Crown, because I don't associate or want to be like any of them. Of course, being male, I'm not going to associate or want to be like any of the females

I'm really not seeing it. Throw up the pic and point it out.

But there's a muscular woman and an effeminate sexy man in the game. You can choose your character, numbnuts.

Though here the artist didn't make anything gratuitous, the characters were created strictly following his own artistic style, he didn't go out of his way to create something insulting. That's what bothers me the most, people has been attacking this game for its characterizations (even though the female archer is

I mean I do love that quote something fierce and I've even used it on this very website several times but I'm not entirely sure it's the best quote for the occasion.

Yes, Sexism is a problem. It still exists and is present.
