Funny story about this movie. I was living in Japan and visiting with some friends when we decided to rent this from the local Tsutaya. This was back in... 2002, maybe?
Literally zero. No ACTUAL Studio Ghibli characters or locations were used in this animation — it’s purely inspired by Studio Ghibli.
Yeah, that’s the other thing I was thinking. The ESA should just show up and be like, “Good news, Mr. Trump! We took your concerns to heart, and established an organization called the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. Ratings are already appearing on all the games across the country!” ;)
Problem is, you’re sort of damned if you do, damned if you don’t — Trump would be just as likely to harshly punish the video game industry for ignoring him.
Looking forward to the ESA schooling Trump. Though also somewhat afraid of Trump being Trump and just making crap up, forcing some kind of governmental intervention. I guess we can only wait and see what happens. Fingers crossed it goes well.
Yeah, I’ve seen footage of that one. I believe that was a game produced on cassette only, and sold in Europe only — whereas the Square game was a cartridge title sold in Japan only. That’s probably why you aren’t familiar with it.
Hey, this game! I’m an MSX owner and collector, and picked this one up a while back. It’s... not great. What the video you linked doesn’t show is that this is one of those games that’s all about trial and error, and perfect execution of very exact movements — if you don’t know exactly when and where every enemy…
Blonde Terra, Locke without his blue accents, and the weird dark-colored soldier outfits (on soldiers with demon eyes, apparently) makes me FAR prefer the “before” than the “after.”
Did... Did you notice that in the thumbnail for this article, the “P” is pretty much invisible due to being written over a light background, so this absolutely 100% looks like it reads “BATTLE ASS”?
Another one I’d recommend that doesn’t get talked about very often is ef -a tale of memories-. Do avoid its second season, however, ef -a tale of melodies-, as it’s kind of a mess... but that first season is just an artistic masterpiece with some of the most hauntingly beautiful scenes I’ve ever encountered in...…
Yeah, what JACrazy said. This isn’t a harem show, as the main guy only has eyes for Nagisa the whole time. The other girls are definitely attracted to him, but even that completely fades away once they realize that Nagisa is the girl he’s chosen — and they never fight over him or anything.
That was a fun list — both parts, since I hadn’t seen this before.
I’ve never understood the hate for the Super Mario Bros. movie. I actually have always quite liked it, save for the last 15 minutes — but a good movie with a bad ending is nothing new, and that’s pretty much what I consider Super Mario Bros. to be. It’s a creative and interesting take on a franchise that simply COULD…
“changes to the PS4's user interface and menu should please everybody.”
An absolute must-have for the American traveler with a laptop: 3-prong to 2-prong plug shape converter. You can buy these IN Japan if you forgot to bring one, but they can be rather hard to find, especially for those who don’t speak Japanese.
I definitely thought you were talking about the movie “The Room” when I read the headline.
“You cannot appropriate symbols of hate and make them look cute. You don’t fight serial killers by legalizing murder.”
Owlboy alone is worth it. One of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in years. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I know some people have issues with it, but for me, it’s about as close to a 10/10 gaming experience as I’ve had in the last decade — an absolute masterpiece. There’s almost nothing I dislike about it.

Just a quick correction: you correctly identify Yuji Naka’s studio as Prope once at the end of the article, but you refer to it twice before that as “Probe.” Probably a phone auto-correct thing, since probe is a word and prope is not, but just FYI! ;)
