This isn’t self-censorship, though, in my mind, as the original creators did not choose to censor the product of their own volition. The overseas localizers chose to censor someone else’s product. And while it may not be a matter of law, the principle is the same, and the same ideas very much apply — just on a smaller

Movies are censored or flat-out banned all the time in wide release, sure. But the original uncensored version is always available to be seen somewhere, and true moviephiles invariably seek it out. As (I feel) they should.

We do live in a Western society, yes. But this isn’t a Western game. It’s a Japanese game, developed with Japanese ideals in mind and for Japanese tastes. When movies from other countries are shown here, they’re not “Westernized” for content — they’re shown as-is, and the audience is expected to go into them aware

That’s not what it’s about. Forgive me for copying/pasting my response to the above message, but it bears repeating: that’s failing to see the forest through the trees. The actual content being censored literally doesn’t matter — it’s the mere fact that some localizers are deciding for us that we’re too delicate to

That’s not what it’s about. That’s failing to see the forest through the trees. The actual content being censored literally doesn’t matter — it’s the mere fact that some localizers are deciding for us that we’re too delicate to see this content and judge it for ourselves. It doesn’t matter if the missing content is an

Dark Cloud 1 was the better game, as far as I’m concerned. Dark Cloud 2 was flashier, but not anywhere near as fun, and the town-building segments were far less interesting.

No PC port exists. Though if previous console-exclusive Trails games are any indication, it may be only a matter of time before some third-party company comes along and ports it.

There doesn’t actually exist a PC version of Cold Steel — it was developed exclusively for PS3 and Vita, and no one has yet ported it to any other system.

This month.

Oh, whoops! I missed the fact that this was about the SFC, not the SNES.

Pilotwings also released on the same day — the system’s three launch titles were Super Mario World, F-Zero and Pilotwings, and those were the only three titles available for the first two weeks the system was out.

Ah yes, I forgot one: The Violinist of Hamelin.

Lodoss War is indeed one of the classics of anime fantasy, though there are a handful of others I would also recommend. Slayers has been mentioned, but I also think the Tower of Druaga anime is shockingly good (it’s half-comedy, but it also tells a very intriguing fantasy story with moments of true drama and a lot of

I had a chance to buy a PS4 a while back.

I chose instead to import a 1987 MSX2+ computer system from Japan, and buy a bunch of games for it on cartridge, floppy disk and cassette.

I do not regret my decision. ;)

And Last Story! Surprised you remembered Senran Kagura, but forgot about that one. Could it be that, subconsciously, you might actually... LIKE Senran Kagura? Perhaps it’s your little secret, played in the dark of night when no one is around? I’m onto you, Jason Schreier! ;)

Except the characters were racist stereotypes, the “creepy” locations were made significantly less creepy by the fact that the characters had SHOTGUNS, and the focus of the story went from ghost hauntings to freaking WITCHES for some reason. The believability also suffered significantly, what with all that dimensional

“Yes, some are better than others—1, 3, 5 are the best entries”

I think you’re being a liiiiiittle harsh on this game, but I still mostly agree with your overall assessment. What we have here is a very competently-made platformer with generally pleasing level designs, but a lot of strange missteps that I think hurt the overall experience. The biggest issue, for me, is the slow

Dunno if you’re taking suggestions, but if so, I’d like to recommend a double feature: 2005’s “The Skeleton Key” and 2014’s “Jessabelle.” Both are highly underrated horror films, both take place in the bayous of Louisiana, both are half horror and half mystery, both involve voodoo/hoodoo, and both have (debatably)

Yeah, same here. I actually find button mode to be more difficult.
