For me, the amount of crap that has gone wrong with engines and transmissions in my vehicles is a very small number compared to all the other crap that an EV would also have.

Even the most reliable cockroach cars need servicing - and rarely on the parts that EVs don’t have. So you don’t need a $20 oil change every year, BFD. Nobody goes to the dealer for that once out of warranty anyway. Jiffylube might have reason to worry in 25+ years - the local dealer service department, not so much.
Tesla dropped the price of the Model 3 every time the feds dropped the rebate. A Model 3 Performance went from 80k to 55k. They didn’t find a way to lower costs by 25K. They price what the market will bear. Just like with any price if people stop paying it will be lowered till they start again.
I think instead the math right now is:
But it also looks so much better with 4 wheels.
For the problems that EV can have, being tech-savvy is probably not enough. Everything related to the HV system requires specialist training to work on. Considering the quality of advice that Google finds for car problems, that could become quite dangerous once EVs get old enough to have electrical breakdowns.
1st gear. I’ve said it before, I will say it again. For average biegemobiles, the greasy bits are the least of your concerns already. EVs are still cars, and share all the other crap that goes wrong over time and drives you insane as a car ages. Or do they not have suspensions, HVAC, infotainment, door handles,…
Couldn’t Tesla have supplied Hino with an electric power unit and thus make the story Tesla related?
2nd Gear: I’m not a Tesla hater, but the post-S&P slump should not really surprise anyone, even if it is short lived. Stocks get a lot less volatile once actual investment banks start dealing their shares and not just speculators who tend to be more frivolous. “Volatile” for Tesla the last few years meant a market cap …
I don’t love the Mach-E, but it is substantially better looking than the Model Y, it’s Tesla competitor.
ID.4 comes with 3 years of free charging at Electrify America (owned by VW, largest public fast charging network in the US)
It seems to me that Apple+Tesla would have a market valuation significantly lower than the sum of Apple and Tesla as independent entities.
100% agree. I believe the majority of new vehicles sold right now should be PHEVs. The vast majority of journeys would be electric, but you avoid all the problems/anxiety that long-range electric trips cause today. As battery tech improves, increase the batteries and shrink the ICE until we can go pure electric with…
This is kind of why I feel like a plug-in hybrid (with decent electric range) is the best current day option for a lot of people. They can operate on full electric for daily commuting, but when they do need to drive 400+ miles for whatever reason they can still just hop in and go.
Rebates tend to give tax money to the wealthier people in our society. Few people who bought a Tesla did so because there was tax money on the hood. It’s a ridiculous system that isn’t incentivizing EV adaptation.
Yep!Heavier vehicles have an advantage. Not all 5 star safety ratings are equal :-(
The logic behind the rules isn’t internally consistent if you ask me.
I understand. I want a six pack of white t-shirts for Xmas. The old batch is ready for garage rag duty. If there was something that I actually wanted I would already have it. If I don’t have it already then I don’t want it or need it. Maybe a bottle of bourbon to go along with my t-shirts.
All excellent questions. And as a parent with a 5 1/2 year old in a Britax Frontier/Grow-with-you Clicktight convertible booster thing I’m curious how these seats perform compared to alternatives. I didn’t buy mine based on marketing nonsense on the box (though I admit I was considering the more expensive model with…
me and my wife are both the oldest so naturally we had the “first” grandbaby the amount random crap they buy our son is insain. Now siblings are starting to pop out their own crotch-goblins and now we sit back and laugh at them getting the same treatment.
