I moved to Toronto from New Zealand and was shocked by how racist it is here - and NZ is not a paradise of racial equality by any stretch, but Canada is definitely worse. There’s a very “us and them” attitude where “us” is always white people.

I hate how defensive people get about being called out on racist shit. If someone says you’re racist (or did a racist thing) the correct response is “Oh shit, I’m so sorry, how do I fix it?” not “No that’s not racist because I can’t be racist because racism is bad and I’m a good person.”

Anxiety levels are going up and have been for decades, due to a lot of factors that you can google if you are curious about. But I don’t think most people with anxiety are “running away” from anything - we’re just facing a steeper climb than others so we get there slower or need longer breaks.

I grew up in New Zealand and we all had them. I was shocked when I moved to Canada and no one has heard of them! (Then I realized they all heat their homes to a million fucking degrees all winter so it’s like living in a kiln but instead of coming out as beautifully finished ceramics I just have a lot of nosebleeds

Thank you for this gif(t). I needed it this morning.

This was my first question on seeing the picture. “Ok but where is the dinosaur???”

Scrolled through the comments to make sure someone had posted this! I genuinely rewatch this a couple times a year. It just makes me really happy!

I’d also be curious about New Zealand. I grew up there and would like to hear a perspective from a Black person who lives there. I know one Black New Zealander and a few from Africa, but most immigration is from Asia.

I used Diet Bet (you bet on yourself to lose 4% bodyweight in 4 weeks) to motivate me and I was 1.5 pounds away from the goal weight in the morning so I fasted the last day and took a laxative the night before weigh in. Money as a motivator is not a good way to build healthy habits...

The most impressive and interesting thing the English language can do is change and adapt. Why test drive if you’re just going to leave it in third gear the whole time?

Heaven forfend we keep up with the times.

NZ’s recently retired kicker Dan Carter basically won us the world cup with drop kicks - we won one game 18-16 or similar. But yeah, it’s not that common. It doesn’t make for a good game to watch, or for a popular kicker.

Haha - this is so funny and true. I’m from NZ originally but moved to North America a few years ago and I can’t watch American Football... it just seems so silly and everyone takes it so seriously.

I’m from NZ and moved to North America, and the poor sportsmanship here blows my mind. Not that it’s perfect in rugby, but it’s aspired to. Here it’s just expected that you’ll be rude and disrespectful to the other team. It makes me sad because I think it undermines a lot of the best aspects of team sports.

I love the second solution so much. Simple and elegant (and comfortable).

To be fair, though, I have used my magic wand to relieve muscle knots. Yes, it’s primarily an amazing orgasm machine, but as a “personal massager” it is somewhat multipurpose.

I’d be surprised if they kill Cosima or Delphine. a) I think curing Cosima is an important part of wrapping up the show and then killing her after curing her seems unlikely, and b) there has been so. much. backlash. over killing lesbians on TV. They seem too socially savvy to push that button.

With all the (justified) internet noise around lesbians dying on TV I’d be surprised if they kill Cosima or Delphine.

That’s one of my favourite parts! I first read American Gods maybe 15 years ago as a teenager and didn’t reread it for another decade. In that time the details got fuzzier and that section got disconnected in my head from the rest of the book. I remembered them separately and occasionally wonder what book that creepy

Rice pudding.
