Good point. I wasn't intending to say that the Asian women included should be dropped, just that people casting shows often claim it's not racism to have a specific "aesthetic" but if your aesthetic is "tall, thin, pale skinned" then yeah, actually, that is racism, even if it happens to include people from a few

My coworker is a triplet (two boys, one girl) and while he and his brother aren't technically identical, until they hit puberty they basically were so his mother gave them different haircuts to make it easier to tell them apart. When they were eight they cut each other's hair and their mum figured out who was who by

Tans are definitely out, but don't tell my 50-year-old coworker who looks like acid-washed leather.

Thank goodness it's not just me. I tried A Hologram for the King and just couldn't bring myself to care. I'll be reading Boy Kings instead of The Circle, for sure.

Yeah, those were seriously brutal to watch. Some I couldn't fault because it was clearly a scrum to get the ball, but others were thrown straight to a kid and then a callous, selfish adult just snatched it away.

OH MY GOD IS THIS REALLY REAL??? I can't even cope with how much I can't cope.

Some people say that diversity is represented by Asian models, even if there are no black or latina models, but the Asian women selected invariably have pale skin - shows aren't included Indian or Thai women for example - and are often worryingly exoticised. It's not a step forward to include Asian models who "fit the

I read "Women are never free" and had a moment of "Yeah, never free from expectations or judgement or obligation and pressure... wait. That seems too thoughtful for this guy. What else could he possibly mean? Ooooooh."

I'm the same. I keep baby wipes around for if I need to remove make up or just want to feel refreshed but overall happy with my no-routine routine.

Based on the song "shake your money maker" I always assumed that your moneymaker was your butt... Either I'm mistaken, or you own a bidet.

I was impressed with the ones over 40 - especially since a couple of them are so small that one or two either way would swing the percentages. Anything over 30 got a shrug and a "could be worse" The under 20%ers can gtfo.

Yeah, okay, that's fair... not so concerned about his lies relating to domestic issues and inter-party spying. Concerned about lies involving international relations, drone use and other potentially world-affecting areas.

.

Especially since they're Canadian. I had heard of Watergate from pop culture, but never knew what actually happened until well into university. It's a big deal in the US, but the rest of us are not as worried about what lies your president is telling.

I don't actually have a crush on Adam Scott, I have one on Ben Wyatt. It's weird because he's married and also fictional... Less realistic than my crush on Stephen Fry who is single and real but gay, more realistic than the one on Jimmy Stewart is married and dead.

Oooh, yes! Rosamund Pike is such a good suggestion. This trailer is so dull... Pike with a racier script would be perfect.

Thanks for the rec - I saw the ads for The Silent Wife and was torn because I didn't like Gone Girl, but I do like that type of book. And now every thriller written by a woman is going to be compared to that book and I'll never know whether I'd like it. I'll give Silent Wife a go :)

Oooh, to recommend another book on that theme, have you read Ru, by Kim Thuy? It's amazing, very poetic and moving. It's quite short, and is told in brief episodic chapters, but it gives you a real insight into their experiences, and what it's like to immigrate under those circumstances. Won some prizes here in Canada.

I hated Gone Girl so much. I read the first 100 pages, skipped 100 pages, skimmed it and could only curl my lip at the ending. On the other hand I loved A Visit from the Goon Squad. So good. I love non-linear story telling. It's my favourite.

I promise not to be too harsh/have crazy high expectations. I read a big range of stuff so it seems likely that I'll enjoy it.
