Added them all to my list. Just read Rules of Civility and liked it. One thing I love about your list (and Laura's) is that so many of the authors are women. Sometimes just by accident I end up only reading books by men in a month and I'm working hard to find more great books by women. I loved The Flamethrowers -

I've only read a couple of the books on your list so thanks for this - I love recommendations! Some of the best books I've read this year/summer (not all are from this year): The Family Fang by Kevin Wilson; The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers; The 100-year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared by Jonas

It's on order at the Toronto Public Library and I reserved it :) Thanks for the rec.

Ooh ooh - I wanna play:
The Black Count: Did you know the author Alexandre Dumas's dad was a black count in France? This was really interesting and well written.
Lost at Sea: A collection of articles on a really wide range of topics from Insane Clown Posse to the easy credit wave that lead up to the recession. Easy to

Fun fact 2: Because "ideal" shapes change, there were corsets in the 1800s that were designed to push out tummy and butt. It was no healthier than the corset we're more familiar with - it created curvature of the spine that left many women with permanent pain and nerve damage.

Have you read:
The Perfect Ghost - Linda Barnes
Anything (everything) by Joe Hill
An Unsuitable Job for a Woman - P. D. James
Dare Me - Megan Abbott
All the old noir kings - Dashiell Hammit, Raymond Chandler, James Cain
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie - Alan Bradley
The Cutting Season - Attica Locke
Lexicon - Max Barry

Yeah, I'm white and it's only in the last couple years that I've become really aware of my privileges, but since watching shows like The Wire, Treme, OITNB, Scandal etc. it's become so incredibly painful to watch even some of my favourite shows. I've been re-watching some Buffy seasons and it's

That's exactly my method. My mum taught me to cook quite a few things as a teen but I didn't retain most of that information so I do a lot of googling. "Best vegetarian lasagne", "easy poached eggs" etc. Like I said, I'm lazy, so I just search until I find a recipe that doesn't require more than three dishes or any

I work with a guy who lived at home until he was 25 and cannot cook anything. Literally does not cook. Not one single meal ever. He lives on frozen pizza and bagels (and then complains that he can't lose weight). I asked him about it and he said "My mom just always did the cooking." It's ridiculous. I'm a lazy cook,

Oh my god... this isn't a partner complaint but my flatmate is a man and I don't know if it's a gender thing or just a Dennis thing but I have to redo about a third of the dishes every time he does them. Seriously if it is visibly dirty, it is not clean! How hard is that to figure out! Let alone the fact that it makes

Unfortunately I believe they never made this movie so you missed the opportunity to actually admire his spunk.

To be fair (to the headline) it's something like chance of being gay: Boy 1 = 4%, Boy 2 = 4.5%, Boy 3 = 5%, Boy 4 = 5.5% so it's a significant difference, but not like science is saying "Haha CAMN, stop deluding yourself with your hetero porn and love of boobs."

I like it.

Feel sorry for the significant others, too! My entire extended family out to third cousins could fit on a bus, my bf's mother is one of 10 and father is one of eight. I never know who he's talking about or who I've met. He literally just learned that one of his uncles has two kids around that he's been estranged from

Yeah, my sister sleeps in a bra quite often because she's uncomfortable if she doesn't. She has a pretty great rack and sometimes I'm jealous of how she fills out a sweater but then I remember that she has to spend $80+ on bras, swimwear etc. AND tailor all her fitted dresses and I stop being jealous.

He doesn't conform to his birth-assigned gender, and he isn't expressing any desire to actually be a girl. So the best description at the moment is that he is gender non-conforming, rather than trying to label him as something like trans, when that's not how he's currently expressing himself.

I deleted it immediately after so it doesn't still have access, and you can limit it from posting anything before you actually take the test. 70/100. Quirky enough, but not, like, so quirky I'm weird, ya know? Can't wait to tell my boyfriend. Bet he's a total mundie.

I grew up in NZ and it could be that fewer people there will object to his costumes - not because they're more racist but because there's a much smaller Black or African population and I don't think as many people are aware of the history and connotations of blackface. If someone did something similar aimed at Asian

I don't think it's always a problem, but in this case he's pretty specifically referring to East or Southern Africa, whereas countries north of the Sahara, or along the Horn of Africa have quite different climates, wildlife etc. It's kind of comparable to saying "We're going to have a Europe theme with the Eiffel

Haha... that's so true. I think my minimum was $300!
