That’s the case sometimes, but not always. The company I work for, the largest automaker in the world, we have thousands of full-time engineers and are always looking for more. We do hire contract engineers to fill teams when the need arises, but that’s because we don’t have enough of our own.

I wish someone had given me that advice when I was younger.

The internship programs are about the best way into the auto industry for an engineer. My company posts positions on different job sites and recruits on campuses all around the country, but it seems like almost every new hire was a co-op.

You know what, I hadn’t considered it before, but yes. Yes Microsoft and Apple and others should be held responsible for providing the software. And here is why.

How about some verification on the make and model of the van dammit?

If you want to transport more stuff in fewer trucks you have to let trucks haul more stuff. The allowable gross vehicle weight is set at 80,000 lbs for semis. But increasing that limit comes at the cost of destroying our already crappy roads that are built to support 80,000 lbs trucks, and safety of everyone else on

I think you should have written this article in the first place. Good analysis.

If you could you would, but you know you’re full of crap and are just smart enough to keep your mouth shut and not prove it.

In a nursing home. There isn’t many men around anymore, just large children with greasy mustaches playing Pokemon and sipping coffee flavored milkshakes.

Idiot alert!

Agreed. Nissan wants to solve their fuel economy problems with CVT alone and too cheap to do a good one.

Australia for example....

You take away unions, companies take away unskilled jobs.

Exactly this. The doom and gloom people think the economy would have collapsed. Would likely would have happened is a more efficient business model would develop and the industry would be stronger now because of it.

The cost of labor is why. The same short sided morons that demand $35 an hour plus benefits are the same people complaining about the company moving to cheaper labor. The union bosses must be the biggest idiots on Earth if they think they can blackmail a company to stay in Canada and at the same time make them pay WAY

Exactly!

Or the problems of these company’s customers. The automakers are convinced that it’s just fine to charge $50,000 for a pickup, but get all pissy when the customer prefers to buy an American made pickup. As an employee of an automaker I can say for sure that American built pickups still return one heck of a profit.

Ford GT, Viper. They exist.

Very much so. But also very fun.

When you have to absorb a front end collision at 60mph without compromising the drivers compartment it help to have an extra foot of space to the front of the bumper. Same with side impact tests, rollovers. The cars are designed to protect the dummy from damage and size matters.
