Your assumption that the bailouts were designed to prevent bankruptcy is incorrect. The bailouts were undertaken to prevent liquidation (much different and more severe than bankruptcy) and the associated social costs, along with preventing irreparable damage and failure of a major manufacturing sector. If you

I said it when the concept was shown and I’ll say it again: if this becomes a reality I would book a test drive and seriously, SERIOUSLY make it happen should the drive go well.

You do know why Ford didn’t need a bailout, don’t you?

I think there’s room to criticize the deal as not being the best deal possible for the government (who, one would think, had the upper hand at the time), but in the scheme of things this is way down the list of things taxpayers should be angry about. A few things to put this into perspective:

Ford Credit took close to $16 billion in bailout money and since Ford credit is owned by Ford motor company I’d say that counts as a bailout...

Ford made the decision to put everything up for collateral to fund their turnaround. But it wasn’t exactly an easy path for them and if GM was liquidated, Ford would have went down with them because of the destroyed supplier base. Chrysler never had a chance, since they had nothing at the time (all things considered,

gotta factor in the tax money brought in by all of those people still having jobs making cars. Then the money those people spend on other items. It is not a simple we paid X in bailouts, by selling GM/Chrysler stock we made Y conversation. There is always nuance.

How many jobs and livelihoods did it save though? If it prevented people becoming destitute and homeless, if it prevented families suffering, if it saved communities from breaking up and towns from becoming derelict, then it was not money lost. It was money well spent. Just because you cannot measure the results on an

The auto bailouts: I will make this real simple for everybody. Assuming you value a homegrown, home controlled automobile industry: The bailouts worked. The Administration/Democrats were right, and the Republicans were wrong. Anybody’s who still mad about it needs to get with reality, and admit World War II levels of

My wife wants a truck... She's gonna be so pissed when I show up at home with this and tell her it's for her... Then drive it all the time

These are one of the few cars where a vacuum leak can be accompanied by a fuel line leak and the two together make the car actually run okay.

The engine bay is like a piece of H.R Geiger’s work

Yeah...nothing they make in Hungary worth thinking about....

This is testament to the level of intelligence of said Trans-Am fans.

We’re getting to the point where cars aren’t made to last long enough for that to happen. When the ICE craps out in 20 years, the car will be headed for the recycler anyway.

Yes. They have, like, three different fonts in the infotainment system. Horrible.

It doesn’t look like my Outback, nice!

Mercedes like to put everything in italics for no particular reason

Anyone else feel that the font MB uses is kind of cheap/crappy looking?
