I had the box set of those books when I was little. I only recall The First Four Years as the one my mom wouldn’t read to me (and I never got around to reading on my own).

Because both those things come from a lack of maturity and self-reflection? I have no idea, just guessing.
If you look at the comments (yes, I read the comments on a porn actor’s bio on PornHub, and my life is slightly worse for it), there are a couple of women there talking about how much this guy’s films turn them on. Women or “women” who are actually shills. Not sure which.
I’ve responded to a couple of similar comments, but:
1. Yes
Are those state or federal electoral districts? (Excuse my ignorance - I’m Canadian.) Anyway, at a glance it looks like there’s some serious gerrymandering going on.
YES. This reminds me of what Noam Chomsky said about Holocaust deniers - basically that we’re lowering ourselves by even engaging in debate with them.
Oh yeah, I think I wasn’t clear about what I meant and wish I could go back and edit that. I’m absolutely aware that porn sex is not like real sex. What I meant was that sex is the essential ingredient. While I’m not the kind of feminist who defends porn on sex positivity grounds, I’m also really skeptical of the…
What does that have to do with my comment? Also, there are self-identified feminists who would answer yes, and those who would answer no - that’s pretty well-established. The porn/anti-porn debate within feminism is like feminism 101. And I don’t care to share my personal opinion with you because you’re obviously a…
“Interracial” porn is absolutely geared toward white men. It’s fucked up.
For the curious, here’s Rico Strong’s bio on PornHub (emphasis mine):
I can’t vote in the U.S. but I would literally be relieved if a swarm of gnats shaped like Ronald Reagan’s hair won the next election.
You’re talking about me, and NOWHERE do I say that I’m against regulation, and no one else in this thread has said that either. I’m FOR regulation. FFS.
Oh P.S., I think lack of regulation is also part of the problem. It should be better regulated.
Counterpoint: while media producers do make what sells, it’s a two-way street because the media we’re fed also plays a major role in shaping our tastes.
Of course. That still doesn’t mean things can’t change. Simple supply and demand aren’t the only social forces in the world. If they were, there probably wouldn’t be a minimum wage or workplace safety regulations or even laws against animal cruelty. And you’d probably still be able to buy lawn darts. (Sorry, dumb…
Uh...no shit. What I mean is that real life sex does not have to be abusive, and I don’t see why sex in porn has to be abusive either. While I have not witnessed a porn shoot, I see absolutely no reason why violence and lack of consent would be an essential ingredient.
That’s a good point, and I think the answer is that it would change if the actors organized and pushed for change. These two actors sharing their story is part of what pushing for change looks like. It sounds idealistic but it’s certainly not impossible. Workers in other industries have done it.
I don’t think that’s entirely true. There are scary stories, and there’s porn that you can see just from watching it is abusive. It makes me sick too. But I mean it’s just sex recorded on video, and therefore results may vary just like with sex in private life. Some porn stars are vocal about liking what they do, I…
