I did not know about it, I’ll check it out!

Yeah, this has always confused me. I don’t care where you live, locking your shit up is just common sense and doesn’t even have to be based on fear. Like, what is the overriding inconvenience of not locking your doors? I really do think a lot of people say and do this as a humblebrag, because otherwise it doesn’t make…
That’s such a shame! It’s true that age can tend to make a person more conservative, but.... it must be difficult watching them seem so fearful of the world.
“.....showing that whatever freedoms women are given can and will be taken away.” Oh that last line. Loved that you managed to squeeze that important note in a comment about regency attire. Bravo!
To be fair, stays aren’t super comfortable either. They were an improvement, definitely, but they were still tight enough to push women’s nipples into their bodies so much they weren’t able to breastfeed. They still sculpted the body into an artificial cone shape.
I wasn’t assuming anything. I was merely asking an “either/or” question. I would hope that it was a call for qualified individuals to be hired.
Mean World Syndrome is probably at play here. I grew up in a statistically more dangerous time and my suburban mom rarely locked the doors. Now, in an even safer environment, she has a couple guns and video surveillance.
Ummm...comfortable, yes. Flattering? No. Very young, thin, women can wear them and look good, but they hide the waist-hip contours in a way that doesn’t make the most of a more shapely figure.
C’mon. Seriously? You thought her call to hire an African-American writer meant “hire any ol’ body off the street as long as they fail the paper bag test?”
It’s not a “black” city, it’s one of the most segregated cities in America.
Do you live in St. Louis or are you just farting out Brietbart sounds?
It’s a segregated city. Big difference.
I live in Philly and one person’s graffiti is another’s work of art. I love the graffiti in the neighborhood, it can (and does) turn an otherwise shit-hole of a junk yard concrete wall into an ever-changing work of art. Probably 10% of the street art throughout the city is unwanted, and people even pay (!!!) artists…
The high-waisted dress was a revolution in comfortable women’s wear. Previous to this, women were corseted all the time, wore panniers, powdered hair and/or towering wigs (hair powder was notoriously itchy, and elaborately coiffed hair was only rarely washed).
The Georgian and Regency era styles were liberating.…
That last line, man.
I love that she called out the “graffiti” bullshit, too. Like, if your neighborhood’s biggest problem is bored teenagers with spray-paint then you have it pretty good...
I was thinking Hugh Laurie as George IV in Black Adder.
It eludes me as well.
I don’t get the Colin Firth obsession. He’s...........ok, i guess?
Riiiiight?! Firth’s Darcy always came off creepy rather than brooding. Although I understand it’s a very fine line.
