The fatal fetal abnormality thing is what gets me most. What if you're two months in and you learn that the fetus isn't going to be born alive, but it's not going to be "life threatening" to you until you're nearly ready to deliver? You have to go through all of the bodily changes, all of the pain and risk, all of the

Oh wow, that's not what I was trying to get across there at all. I have to ask out of genuine curiosity:

"They think their job is to point out typos, not to read carefully and tell me when I misunderstood some crucial piece of technical info."

Most people did. It comes from typewriter days, so anyone who grew up using a typewriter (read: everyone old enough to teach high school to Millennials and older) used two spaces, and for them it was correct. It just isn't correct on a computer or with any font other than Courier.

I never meant to imply that it was about me. I'm genuinely sorry that it came across that way. I am furious that the system works this way, and I don't know how to express that without saying "I".

Okay, I see this thread mushrooming into something terrible, so I'm going to try to respond as best I can to what you're expressing. For me, as a white woman, there was never a question that Zimmerman was guilty. There was never a question about whether I'd side with Martin. There was only the question of how far

I think I'm in denial. I keep pretending there will be some sort of appeal and eventually we'll get to the right court, the right jury, and someone will put him away. It just can't be over, not like this.

That's a better analysis of it than I've seen so far, so thanks - much appreciated.

Fist bump! Horror stories related to the writing aspect? My first week I did a major revision of a document & sent it to the client. He sent it back with notes, one of which was, "I prefer passive voice." I think I gave up right then, one week in.

No problem! It's scary for all of us and harder for some. It really does sound like you naturally lean in the right direction, though, so kudos. You're probably doing just fine.

Tell him to put some newspaper down on the floor if standing on his shoes is too hard. Or he can spend $11 and buy a plastic shower mat from Target to carry in there with him.

Genuine LOL. Followed by genuine sadness and rage.

That sounds fabulous because it's just a nice thing you're doing. When I'm having a bad day, there's something hugely validating in having another person recognize that I'm sad. The fact that said person would then go out of his way to try to cheer me up would almost certainly perk me up a little bit. The only way I

So where do they stand now? Are we expecting them to write up a new & improved Voting Rights Act to supersede the one that SCOTUS gutted? I'm living overseas right now so it's hard for me to tell what the level of popular pressure is on the VRA. It doesn't seem to be a hot topic.

I also had a client whose official documentation was in Trebuchet with Calibri headings. Let me repeat that: Computer software manuals with smatterings of code examples (in Courier, as is right and proper) written in Trebuchet. Treb. Yoo. Shey.

The double space after a period. Oh. Oh that one is the WORST. I worked for a software company for 2 years as their tech writer. I TOLD them it was wrong. Their counter-argument was basically, "Well it looks right to me."

"I don't mean it in a sleazy way, I just like admiring beautiful women."

Thinking is awesome. The fact that you've already limited yourself to things you'd say to a dude is likewise awesome.

I'd so love to just hop in a car, drive people to get their IDs, then drive them to the polls a few months later. Is it really that easy? I've heard so often that groups that trend Dem also tend to be the ones that have trouble obtaining government IDs, but I will readily admit that I don't have a good grasp of why.

By all means, take them, please!
