...using the same sound as the “G” in the word “Graphics” which is what the “G” in GIF stands for. It isn’t “Jraphics Interchange Format”.
Wilhite is wrong if you take the t off the word gift it doesn't change how you pronounce the first 3 letters together.
It’s not often that the creator of something is wrong about his own creation.
I’m keeping this short. Thank you for your thoughtful response.
I never said “savage” was never a slur. However, I am of the strong opinion it is no longer. You’re much more likely to hear it used to describe an action or feeling online these days, and probably not at all in everyday life.
I won’t claim to be Native…
My dad dealt with a lot of racism growing up and while I’ve had an easier time of it, I’ve got my share of problems too. I just get tired of my people getting treated like fragile porcelain by white dudes who want to feel woke. The word savage isn’t gonna hurt us. Institutionalized racism hurts us. Police hurt us.…
There is a meaningful, logical difference between “this term has been used in some contexts in ways that were harmful” and “this term is harmful in all contexts”. This article seems to be implying that the former conclusion should always lead to the latter. I do not believe that is a rational viewpoint.
But here’s the thing. If a person finds a word offensive, apologize and stop using it. For 99.99% of the population, savage is a word with no baggage. We need to stop saying “you can’t say X because I can imagine a specific scenario in which a person might find X offensive under certain circumstances.”
We don’t need to…
Thank you for reassuring me that there are other intelligent sane people on the internet that also think the outrage should be at appropriate sources.
This feels like the most manufactured of manufactured controversies. I Googled “savage” as requested, and got the following as the first result.
None of the definitions feel inherently racist, and the initial adjectival definition feels like it serves the game perfectly. Sure, the developers *could* have chosen a…
stop misusing the censorfish Mike, it’s not an arrow. I thought that guy went on stage with another kind of pocket monster for a moment there...
Using the title of a decade-retrospective listicle over a feature story collection of extremely personal anecdotes about the author’s life strikes me as a narcissistic bait-and-switch. Both genres of story are fine but readers going in expecting one won’t be happy to find the other.
Anyone know where to start with this series? Cold Steel or Trails in the Sky? Are the stories connected at all?
No one here is glorifying it though, unless you consider merely writing about the man as glorifying him, which stretches the word beyond any reasonable definition. It’s possible to acknowledge his horrid views and at the same time recognize his status as one of (if not the) most influential horror writers in history.…
I was a little bit sad about Stygian as everything I saw about it seemed initially interesting, but the reviews I have seen have not exactly been kind. Especially the part of the game just ending in the middle because the devs ran out of money is kind of a... drawback. Yeah, let’s call it that.
“We wanted to show different ways of living, and to show that to the player, so they can get interested in new people, and new ways of thinking about their life
I don’t think MMR was ever in a Halo game
Say what you will, but I think the Ouya 2 shows great promise.
