I think salary's taken into account because at least there is some direct form of compensation for working holidays. And most hospitals don't force their staff to work every single holiday and also give them paid vacations and sick days.

You are so right. There are generally 6 holidays that hospitals recognize. The staff usually works half of those and trade days with the other staff. For instance, when my kids were little, I worked New Years Day so I could have Christmas off. The single partiers worked Christmas so they could have New Years off.…
