That is brilliant. I wish I had a friend called John Carter...

This was what I was expecting too. :/
Have you read MARVEL: 1602 by Neil Gaiman, where he does this with Marvel characters? It is wonderful. :)
I'm just going to say it; Max von Sydow as Hinzelman? HELL TO THE YES! My god that is a FANTASTIC and WONDERFUL idea. WONDERFUL, I say.
My name's Carl Ingebretsen. I'm adding you now. (And yes, it is a Horrible Big Brother tool. But if we take advantage of it, it can never take advantage of us! MWWAHAHHAHAH)
Well, Staples hasn't done any MAJOR work, in Video Games or in movies, so I'd say you ought to give it a shot. It's not like you can lose anything on it. :)
If the movie includes the "Secret Invasion"-plotline, with "Loki & his Cosmic Cube" thrown in, then Thor will most likely battle Loki and his Cosmic Cube, while all the other heroes deal with the Secret Invasion, as in "a whole lotta evil aliens on them at once". This also means that Thor can help them, and they can…
"But that's not the only genre series Showtime is interested in, The Observer is reporting that the premium cable channel's Salman Rushdie series also has a science fiction twist. Rushdie describes The Next People as "a sort of paranoid science-fiction series, people disappearing and being replaced by other people.""
I do agree - it should be "some people". Stupidity is, after all, humanity's greatest achievement, and it will be the downfall of us all. (But America will be the first to go. :P)
My god some Americans are stupid. Also - this comment field is one of the reasons I love io9. Actually laughed out loud with some of the posts.

Why DC is rebooting the whole universe, you ask? Well, that's because they want us to buy 52 new titles just to keep up with the overarching storyarc of the universe.
Definitively see your point about the studio and the "happy endings" of films. I'm very glad HBO had the courage to kill Ned. They could just as easily have done the "sell-out", by buying the rights, shutting GRRM out of the process and made a series in his "universe", but where Ned would still be alive.
It's good to be taken out of one's comfort zones sometimes. See Breaking Bad. Hell, that show doesn't even HAVE a comfort zone when you get to season 2/3. And it is the very best thing on television right now. :)
I do see this angle, but really, the fact that everything else is status quo should make a genuinely surprising and shocking story even MORE compelling to watch when you ain't used to it.
Indeed. :)
I will never understand why some people will give up on a story (whether it's a novel, television show or film) when they do something absolutely shocking that you in no way expect them to. For me, the moment they do that is when stories become breathtaking, awesome and special.
Best. Article. Ever. (And comment field for that matter). Both funny AND enlightening. Good stuff. (and yes, I have experienced this phenomenon.)
