I can agree with that, however, I think money should be pulled from the general fund rather than raising taxes. The gas tax shouldn't be the only funding for the national highway system.
So your basic argument is, because we pay less in gas taxes than other countries we should pay more in taxes. That just makes no since. Your other points about commodities, cost to produce and global economies do not support your argument in the least.
