LED’s they are using are about 1/4th the power required in traditional settings so I don’t think they are using that much energy. I am surprised they haven’t put panels on the roof to provide a zero sum loss environment.

If you need multi-TB solutions and LIKE the DIY, take a look at the Backblaze Storage Pod. They open sourced the design, the parts are all COTS and the OS is Debian so you can customize to your hearts content. I built one for our (large) extended family to use and while it was not cheap, it sure does the job well!
