Just my hot take - I’m glad they finally introduced this. There have been times where I’ve definitely enjoyed my Uber ride and wished I had a way to tip the driver without having to carry cash with me. I never have cash on me and I know that that’s a “me” problem, but that’s the way it is.

I get your point, but all you’re doing is describing the current system of tipping. What the rest of us are suggesting is that employers pay their employees more so that tipping becomes unnecessary.

If it’s an issue of their not being paid a fair wage... why this route? Why perpetuate a system that encourages underpaying your employees while simultaneously creating a social contract that places the burden on your customers to pick up the slack- lest they be labeled selfish, ungrateful assholes.

That’s true in some states, but not all. In CA, for instance, they make at least the regular minimum wage.

Thanks for the insight. Ok, very good to know that they don’t see a tip until after the rating. And by “mandatory” I mean the American concept of tipping being something you have to do or else you’re a terrible person. But if they can’t judge you based on what you tip it’s much less mandatory.

There is zero improvement or benefit for tipping as a consumer. There is little to no chance you will receive the same driver and you certainly cannot request the driver, so repeat business cannot be used.

This is an asinine view when these people are paid for their services. Especially through the lens of how uber drivers are little more than human drivers that everyone would rather could be a machine.

Riders get rated before the driver can see if they tipped or not.

At first, Uber drivers were pretty well compensated for their efforts. But rates have fallen in every city, sometimes more than once, and drivers have taken the brunt of the pay cuts. This will help bring more income to the driver. If one of the companies were to raise their rates 20% to say the drivers were paid

You think fewer people will expect tips from you if/when you become rich?

Yeah. We’ll see how quickly my rating plummets.

i tip for most services because it is customary to tip - however, it is generally against my principals. servers i understand because they make below minimum wage and so tips make up for it - i am all for that. however, for individuals that get paid minimum wage or above, i see no reason to tip unless the service is

Tip is for the effort. You deliver my food to the table, you get a tip. You get me to my house using the methods I know are shortest/least costly, you get a tip. You go above and beyond - you get a huge tip. You do the bare minimum and you get the bare-minimum tip. If I collect my own food, you don’t get a tip.

I reckon she’d opt out of the whole presidential thing if she could.

She certainly doesn’t seem at all interested in politics - she’ll just get trotted out by Trump when he needs a First Lady for some function or another. I can’t really hate her for toeing the party line - loathsome as Trump’s beliefs are, he’s her meal ticket. By all accounts there looks like zero affection between

He represents the majority of the country

That would be fine if he were speaking as Donald Trump, private citizen. “I had cold leftover KFC for breakfast because I, Donald Trump, love me some greasy fast food,” is speaking as a private citizen.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this wasn’t from his personal account but the official POTUS account, making it not “private” and subject to FOIA guidelines. No?

Absolutely! He should maybe set up a private email server, too!

You joke, but Kentucky was one of the biggest success stories of the ACA. A large number of people received insurance and their exchange, set up under a Democratic governor, was one of the few initial successful launches.
