After you accumulate a lot of incidents like this; cars, HVAC contractors, roofers, remodelers - I try to do everything myself. I don’t really want to reroof my house myself though.

I just asked my mechanic who never told me I couldn’t go into the shop area. “Why do most shops say insurance doesn’t allow customers back here?”. His reply was “they probably don’t want you back there to watch them try to screw things up, try to figure things out they don’t know, take very little time to fix

I have Tavarish’s exact same setup, BendPak HD9, 2 RJ45 rolling jacks. I agree with Big Block I4 way up there in the comments that 2 posts are better for DIYers. The runways are simply in the way for some stuff. Even with the rolling jacks. Some suspension work, the runways block use of super long breaker bars. And

I agree with you. It’s so easy to take money from people because most people have zero clues about how their car works and just completely trust the mechanic to tell them what’s wrong and how much. In my (higher end) neighborhood, the standard price for just about anything you bring your car in for is $2000.

“insurance reasons” strikes me as an excuse. You could just as easily slip or trip in the waiting room, crack your head on the desk. Anyway, I wouldn’t use a shop that uses that reason. I fix everything myself except tire mounting, alignment, and bodywork but the shop I do go to for anything I can’t do has never told

It also depends on your proportions. I’m 5'9 but have short legs, long torso, large head (that really sounds unappealing written out). I could not fit in the original Acura NSX or the Miata without bending my neck to the side.

My floor is flat for the front two posts, then slopes down to the door and also slopes down from the side wall so I have 3 different post heights. My installers didn’t level the posts, they adjusted cables so the runways would be level under tension. My installers were lazy - their method doesn’t let the car sit

What is the block made out of that your near post is sitting on? I could google but it’s more conversational to ask you what is the difference with the STX model?

I do agree - what I’d like to do in my next house is get a two post to go along with my 4 post. But it’s so easy to just drive onto the 4 post for most maintenance, exhaust work. I would argue not that much more work for wheel and brake work using the rolling jacks. Yeah the runways are in the way if you are doing

I have the exact same setup with the HD9 in blue and two RJ45's, door opener. Regular use, brake fluid ruins the paint anyway. My installers ran one of the far cables OVER the big bolt securing the runway to the crossbeam, gradually sawing away at the cable. Luckily found it in time when I tried to change runway

Absolutely:

I thought Talking Heads were part of American culture. Some of the young techs were buying tickets for someone or another online. Had never of him and mentioned seeing Talking Heads. “Who?”. I never heard of their bands and they never heard of mine - so we’re even. Also, realized I’m old.

Oops, sorry about the double post.

You’ll be treated very nicely as you’re getting ripped off for more money. Opinion based on anecdotal evidence of my rich friends.

I consider Audi and Lexus premium brands. My friend who bought their high end A8, another with an RX would strongly disagree. Rich customers know no more about cars than poor customers. They just get fleeced for more money while getting treated better.

Thanks. If you see a dignified Malamute and a nutty, autistic Malamute walking around next week, that’s us.

Thanks, my friend told me it was 100 deg in Boulder last week which makes me think CO may not be for Malamutes. And Colorado Springs is full of funamentalists. So I’ll keep my eyes more north.

Excuse me for hijacking the thread - I’m visiting Boulder and Ft. Collins next week to check out CO since I’m considering possibly moving/retiring to CO. I don’t know CO and don’t know where you live but where in in CO would you recommend living? Acknowledging you don’t know my tastes (which don’t run to high

That IS a bargain. Local Audi dealer here is $200/hr for labor. Even independent garages are closer to $90. (Milwaukee).

The seller paid him $500 after 5 months of it sitting there. Tavarish is too clever by far.
