Just to be a voice of reason: the people that responded to you either can’t see past their own nose, have never personally known anyone in the armed forces, or have never picked up a history book.

Go home ANTIFA trash! The country rejected your type of PC garbage long ago! This is a WWII war grave that holds the bodies of hundreds of brave US sailors. You make me sick!
Literally the most retarded thing Ive read on the internet today (that says a lot). What the hell does this say about white supremacy? Do you not know how many people were killed by the Japanese? Are you so stupid that you think the atomic bombs were dropped for nothing?
Rest easy shipmates, we have the watch.
The Japanese murdered 10 million civilians during WWII, mostly other Asians they considered inferior. But sure this was about white supremacy.
It’s not a monument to anything. Just a shipwreck. “White supremacy”.. smh
My father was on one of those ships waiting to invade Japan that summer. I, for one, am glad that dropping two bombs ended the war when it did.
No doubt ALL of the sailors on the ship would have referred to her in the feminine tense. Get off your politically correct high horse and show some respect.
When it was sunk the Indianapolis had just left Tinian where it had delivered the uranium core and other critical parts of the first atomic bomb. On the trip out from San Francisco to Pearl Harbor it set a speed record that still stands today.
Don’t go forcing your gender roles on boats now!
The Indianapolis is one of the few things I literally can’t learn enough about. Sorry your grandfather isn’t around to see it located.
Thank you for sharing this. So often, people just assume it was so long ago, or a monologue in the movie JAWS (don’t get me wrong, it’s my favorite scene). But it was very real, and there are still people alive that experienced it. I don’t know anything about you or your grandfather enough to say he was a great man,…
I’m not interested in hearing any hot takes from the anti nuclear brigade
My grandfather, Robert Coleman, went down on the Indianapolis and was one of the fortunate survivors. He has since passed but before he did he shared with me how harrowing the experience was; he had two close friends who were killed by the sharks in front of him.
I’ve been in the U.S. Navy for over 8 years. This is a huge find for U.S. Naval history. The horrors that these men faced can not be overstated. Floating in shark infested waters having to wait your turn in the life raft then after a while having to give up your spot so another sailor can have their turn. Meanwhile…
“loss of nearly three quarters of its crew”
Finding essentially a needle in a haystack 18,000+ feet down is an incredible achievement.
This news must be unbelievably emotional for the 22 surviving crew members of the U.S.S. Indianapolis. Greatest generation indeed.
Okay! It was at Pomona Offroad Expo 2016, pretty sweet. And now it’s on Craigslist!
Awesome.
