This may seem superficial, but I can't wait to see what outfit and look he's going to go for; it's one of those things about a new Doctor I look forward to.

It looks like this will be the case to a certain extent; the Dalek images the BBC recently released seem to show Gallifreyan symbols burning in the background.

This is really heart warming. I don't know about today, but back then it wasn't uncommon to get responses from the people making the show to write back to fans, especially if they were children. I can't wait to see what Peter Capaldi brings to the role.

I'm hoping, really hoping, that the finally give us some glimpses of the Time war in the 50th, and that they have Paul McGann in it, and have just been really sneaky about it up to this point.

Romana could come back; at the end of Warriors Gate she left The Doctor to go help out the Tharil's in E-Space, a separate universe from the one she and The Doctor lived in, so she wouldn't have been killed in the Time War, or even aware of it. Now the Dr Who novel's eventually brought her back, and she became

He already plays a kind of Time Lord in Sherlock Holmes ; )

Now playing

I'll just let Robin Williams explain things.

Sharlto Copley looks and sounds properly insane in Elysium; a sort of inversion of his character from District 9. I can't wait for this!

And this is how much of a geek I am: the second biggest thing that I am interested in after the new doctor has been announced, is what the new doctor will be wearing. I loved 9 and 10's outfits, 11's less so (but it grew on me). I can't wait to see 12's look.

I kind of hope so; despite liking 11 a lot the bow tie thing never really grew on me.

Oh, I can't wait 'till his first encounter with the Daleks!

Gravitas is exactly what I've been missing from character (without diminishing Smith or Tennant, whom I love); I can't wait for his first encounter with the Daleks.

I think he's a great choice, but I can already hear some fans freaking out because he's not young and pretty enough. For me I think it'll be nice to see an older Doctor in the TARDIS; I think it's going to make a sharp contrast to Matt Smith's take on the character.

I recall the Great Stink of London in the 19th century was an important backdrop to Gibson and Sterling's The Difference Engine, one of the great alternate history/steam punk novels out there.

Ditto for Canada. I (used to) know people who'd go on about it endlessly, especially when I worked as a video game tester. I found it boring as hell even when I was a regular smoker.

I started off as a tester, and then did about a year as an (act as) lead. This was in mobile QA

It certainly put a damper on my enthusiasm. I worked at EA for about 3 years before getting laid off, and am seriously re-thinking my goals.

They might be safe due to the Star Wars deal, but who knows?

I haven't seen the place since getting laid off in April; it sounds depressing. Still no luck getting another job so far : (
