Yeah they only make $300m in profit a year.

3rd gear: Where the fuck do you want to draw the line? The design met and passed standards of the day. TJ fuel tank is in the same spot, so is every old GM A Body, older BMW, K5 Blazer, and a shit load of other cars. Should we recall them too? How about REALLY old trucks that had the gas tank in the cab behind the…
Do Cop Cars Make You Want A Cop Car?
I imagine when the salary = IOU the best marketing folks aren't applying.
Jalopnik is a cool publication, erhm blog, and he's trying to be down with it. Still cringeworthy.
Half life 3 something, something.
Yeah, I know it's a commercial, and I don't even like Ferrari, but this Shell/Ferrari F1 through history spot is so masterfully done it hurts.
This. I come from a family where everyone has a college degree. It was assumed I would go to college (and not fail out). My wife comes from a farming family where you are DISCOURAGED from going to college. She went anyway, met me, we moved away, and now we are the pariahs of her family.
Excellent insight, given the vast majority of components on vehicles (and complex machines/devices as a whole) cost "a few dollars" or less.
While this number may go up, you gotta give credit to Reuters for fucking nailing it, but you can also understand why they didn’t make a big deal out of it yesterday. I think everyone hoped they were wrong, that so many people didn’t die for a part that cost a few dollars. It’s tawdry to gloat about being right about…
THIS! It's like bridge tolls that were meant to disappear once the initial investment was covered. Not only do they not disappear, they gradually increase. And generate way more revenue than is required for maintenance.
Roads won't suffer. Not anymore than they do right now. If you look deep inside most State's balance sheets what you'll find is they actually rob the gas taxes to pay for other programs. This is especially true post-Recession because Governors cut income taxes and never re-raised them. And since they didn't cut…
As a city dweller I just want to chime in here: No way would I own a tesla, simply because I have no easy or consistent way to charge it nightly.
The biggest issue with vast option choices is that if you've spent some time on a configurator figuring out exactly what you want, there's nearly nil chance of actually finding that car on a lot somewhere. Unless you're doing a custom order, you're going to end up compromising whether it's on giving up options you…
You are correct about raising funds. But the government is simply kick starting a market that is trying to compete against a fossil fuel economy that has benefitted from government largess for decades via tax credits, loopholes, etc.
Sure, a good chunk of the money we invested went nowhere, but think of all the things DARPA invested in before they got the Internet. One Tesla is worth it. If we can invest the other $16.6 billion and get another Tesla I say it's a good investment.
I am not surprised, actually. Thought something like this would have happened a long time ago, just owing to his personality.
