Exactly because nobody would have cared. A lot of these projects will add highly recognizable IP just to get attention then swap out the material after they have that attention. Sometimes they are doing it just because they like the IP, but I feel like that is less common.

Nearly all of the people I know with a Switch have a multitude of Switch controllers (I think the average is 4). Meanwhile PlayStation and Xbox almost always max out at 2 controllers per console. Even though the joy cons are very meh, the fact that they divide into two controllers speaks to the way Nintendo embraces…
