Sit on it like scrooge mcduck , invest in low risk low return investments e.g. a saving account or invest it but don’t cash in the gains until later once CGT is lower again (e.g. property or gold)

I pay taxes twice, once when I had to earn that money and now twice when I earn income on that money working for me

What part of capital GAINS is not clear?

Every time money changes hands it is taxed. You get taxes taken out of your paycheck, then when you buy a new car you pay taxes again. It doesn’t mean you were taxed twice, it means money changed hands.

I don’t agree with the “income from sitting on your ass” of capital gains. It’s income from risking your savings to help others generate work and jobs.

Just so you know, that’s a massively stupid argument.

When I was watching Doctor Who, I hoped the next episode would not be a Chibnall episode, because they are insufferable. The Silurians was an okay serial, but he just made them suck soooo hard.Oh yeah, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.

Yes, I’m sure Chibnall wrote it into the script that she should look like a retrograde ‘sexy’ robot from the fifties.
Who knows what combination of people was responsible for that bit of silliness. But it’s not as if Torchwood was a deeply serious show, ruined forever by a writer sticking one woman in a robot bikini.

I’m not sure I’d 100% agree with that. Martha was a terribly written and utilised character, and something always felt slightly off about her just being randomly shoved with Mickey in the end after the horrible way she was turned into a lovesick schoolgirl over the Doctor from pretty much the get-go.

To be fair Torchwood as a whole is littered with this kind of crap so it makes you wonder how much of that was within his control he was largely a writer and we don’t know how hands on he was with his producer role so hypothetically he could have had little control over this decision. To his credit he called Miracle

Actually, I thought most of Torchwood was utter garbage, other than the episode with the rural cannibals, and the Children of Earth series, which was fantastic. And yes, I complained about a lot of it, actually.

As I noted to someone else - at one point in this episode, she is sprayed with sauce so that the pet pterodactyl will attack her. Not a high-point in my mind! ;)

I thought Torchwood on the whole (other than Children of Earth) was pretty bad for 90% of the run. He also did the comically bad “Camelot” iirc?

I didn’t

Good point. Maybe he’ll work better running this than the writing he did in the past.

On the other hand, Moffatt wrote some of the best episodes of Who, but I couldn’t stand him as a showrunner. I’m willing to give Chibnall a chance.

Yeah, people really like to cherry pick Chibnall’s work to try to prove their point. It’s not like Cyberwoman, as bad as some facets of it were, is any worse than dreck like The Return of Doctor Mysterio, to pick a recent one. Chibnall’s Life of Mars episodes were fantastic, too.

In all fairness, and IIRC, she wasn’t a ‘full’ Cyberperson because it was an ad hoc conversion done by a mad scientist, right?

Still...while I shake my head at that costume choice, I don’t think I can admit that I’d ask her to leave should she show up at my door.

While the stylistic choices in that episode are wonky...the story itself is heartbreaking and well executed. Everyone always bitches about this episode as some hallmark of bad by Chibnall. It’s really not. And it forgets ALL the other AMAZING Torchwood he scripted.

Yeah, he re-created the sexy android trope on a notoriously horny show. What a monster.

Ahhhh... the Love and Monsters of Torchwood.
