MKX had a pretty robust set of tutorials.  I cut my teeth on MK1 in the arcades, there were still things for me to learn, about how the game has evolved.  But, I don’t recall seeing the frame counters.  Maybe they were there though?  I’m not sure, but I do love how they are making the info as accessible as they can.

My advice?  The stick on a controller doesn’t have long enough throw, that’s the distance that your finger travels to enact movement.  This makes it too fiddly.  Only use the D pad, even if you prefer a full sized stick.
