War of the Worlds is an extremely unsettling movie for me to watch. Not because it is bad, but because the nature of the enemy (totally unstoppable, vaporizing and harvesting everything in sight) genuinely scares me.

That's part of the reason I enjoyed The Postman. The apocalypse wasn't because of nuclear conflict, biological warfare, religious extremism. It was because of the survivalists who retreated to the woods and tore down long standing institutions in light of nuclear conflict, biological warfare, etc.
