I am so crushed by this. A refugee family who have been in a camp since 2014 were denied entry. A family of six who’ve likely been telling their kids that things are finally going to be ok, and now they’re back in a damn camp. People with green cards! Those screenings (while not quite as comprehensive as what refugees

I used to volunteer a lot for Planned Parenthood in Los Angeles, and much of that was “community outreach” — going to communities that had a clinic and passing out information about the services it offered. The very first time I did one of those, I had what remains the most rewarding and simultaneously most

NO I THOUGHT PIG ISLAND WAS A HAPPY PLACE AND I AM RUINED TO HEAR ITS NOT PIG PARADISE.

Every time I read stories like this it just reminds me that white people would humanize before they would humanize black people.

What is it with the Afflecks? Why do people keep making them happen? I blame Matt Damon and Kevin Smith.

This is what kills me. GO MITCH MCCONNELL. Everyone thought all that GOP obstruction, I mean Garland NEVER GOT A HEARING, would hurt them. It didn’t, it helped, they gained more seats. I say fuck it and say NO to everything.

It is a betrayal. And it’s why we lost, and are continuing to lose. Because we let fucking cowards be our representatives. They should be fighting tooth and fucking nail on every one of these nominations. Not a single one of them is even a quarter of a percent qualified. Our only chance at this point is if we can

I really, really want to believe in Sherrod, but for fuck’s sake - this is what gets democrats in trouble every.single.time. The GOP falls in line and obstructs and blocks and keeps in lockstep in their grinding halt to progress. Democrats shrug and say “well, maybe he’ll do okay.”

That is always my answer to that idiocy: “Yes, the states’ right to create laws making it OK to own people.”

What say you, cheerleaders?

Kara - I know you know this but I wwant to put it out there in writing before or in time with anyone who will call you cynical or say you should appreciate this action.

Uh... you know that diverse groups have diverse opinions and people get to voice them. Progressive people tend to get this. It’s not “infighting” or “eating your own” or whatever else detractors want to call it. Our diverse movement can support and respect multiple opinions at the same time - even ones individuals

The response is: “The state’s right to what, exactly?” I teach US history and that’s how I handle smug kids who come in insisting that slavery really had nothing to do with it. For those wanting to get more educated: read like anything by Eric Foner or look at the secession documents themselves, which are pretty clear

I grew in SoCal, so we absolutely learnec it the right way that it was about slavery, which was the reason the South secedeed. Generally, the teachers would just put on parts of Ken Burn’s Civil War documentary and then we’d discuss it. But I have friends from the South and some Midwestern states and they teach the

Honestly, it’s slightly wronger than that. States don’t have “rights”; they have “powers”. *People* have “rights”. They want to frame the debate as being between the federal government and the state governments, because that is more comfortable to a modern audience than thinking about it as a struggle over slavery.

We also left because some dudes nearby started discussing the Civil War, which according to them was about “state’s rights.” :)

THIS MAN. I AM SO HAPPY FOR HIM. Seriously him saying he wanted to kill him self when he found out he wasn’t going to be an announcer broke my heart. And as was stated on the original post, a man of this age who has participated in many many inaugurations clearly holds it close to his heart regardless of who is

My protest story:

Ok why the fuck does Ivanka’s hair always look like shit? Rich people with bad hair ILL NEVER GET IT

FINE, Ron.
