I'd say it's long been the other way around with the halo series now. The books are way better.

They aren't retconning at all, they're following ALL the lore instead of ignoring it like Bungie did with Reach.

The forerunner trilogy was a mishmash of unreadable crap, can't believe you prefer that to Kilo-Five.

With zip ties for targets AND rescued hostages (because you don't know in the situation if they're hiding gunman), and glow sticks for clearing rooms. I loved the tactics in those games.

The only thing I would disagree with is saying that it doesn't reward stealth. There are achievements for being non-lethal and being undetected.
