They aren't retconning at all, they're following ALL the lore instead of ignoring it like Bungie did with Reach.

The forerunner trilogy was a mishmash of unreadable crap, can't believe you prefer that to Kilo-Five.

With zip ties for targets AND rescued hostages (because you don't know in the situation if they're hiding gunman), and glow sticks for clearing rooms. I loved the tactics in those games.
