I was just sharing knowledge. I know what its like to have a car oncoming faster than one should be going and you don't want to change lanes in case the oncoming car doesn't expect that. Best to let them decide if they want to slow down and wait, or try to cut around me before I get over.

Depending on where you are. There are in fact laws against being in the passing lane for so long. I think in a local county the time limit is 30 seconds. And yes, the officers will ticket you for being there longer than that.
