Interesting the companies I've worked for usually split all that up into very granular specifics. Such as Technical Designer. Sadly there are a lot of wide eyed folks out there that think games are some kinda magic and end up signing up for the wrong thing.

I didn't write all designers off at all. I have a lot of respect for great designers and have worked with several, SEVERAL great designers. But design has SEVERAL hundreds of thousands of people in it and most of them are at the entry level. Nor did I call any designers stupid. In fact I went into a whole slew of

Perhaps they should look into taking a slight paycut and not being contract anymore if they have families. Unless a company goes bankrupt they should be paying people for their work, that's kinda the point of the contract. You're on for X time and here is your money for this time. There are kinda new/naive contract

Having an understanding of tech and artistic limitations is not part of the job requirements of a bog standard designer.

Here let's grab a couple examples.

Shigeru Miyamoto is A: Not an American game designer and B: He's not a bog standard "Game Designer" last I checked he was a Director/Designer/Producer and has been backed by huge 100+ man teams.

You would be what we would call a Technical Designer. Not necessarily a game or level designer. Saying the game was "stupid" was hyperbole don't take it seriously or get offended. Bog standard "Game Designers" or "Level Designers" are not greatly unique and most certainly they don't direct a games or projects in most

No they don't... (Well okay they do, but it's different than you think)

Why do people back games with stark concepts and crappy/no gameplay reels?

That sounds like an automated vacuum that they use to clean up dookie at the Marriott.....

Is there a good idea for a camping car without the Bro-ness or ugliness? Outback?

hahah 90's civic EX with a stripped out interior that you can thrash around sounds much more fun than having to deal with an STI.

Lol as much as it pains me to say I would probably stick with a fiesta RS.

Yeah I'm not doubting that, but there are events and classes out there that have to run stock engines and STIs or base WRXs do run in those events.

Jesus, that would be a pain to fix, and you'd have to catch it before it destroys the piston(s). How do these rally drivers actually deal with that garbage? Or are they just replacing blocks left and right?

I don't mean to offend but that's just a shitty design for teams that are expected to replace these often....

75 + 65 for race spec bearings sounds like a small amount of money to pay.

Sure but they both go hand in hand. You can loosen your restraint with greater confidence, safety, and intelligence if you know about the engineering.

What...Why? Is something preventing access to the bearings? They should be soaked in the oil that's sitting in the pan....

They have some specialized oil sump pans for the g forces for going around twisties. But yeah if you're going around a long corner at high RPMs you can lose oil from a rod. There are pans out there that will help with that by limiting the amount of slosh that can happen in the pan. Most stock pans are just oil
