How would you do this? GM 2 mode transmission swap or go with a Volt drivetrain and put a transfer case behind it?

Hey some people just like new cars, I’m not gonna judge that. But why not just lease at that point? Especially if you’re worried about a monthly payment.

*sound of Sergio Marchionne laughing*
I’d keep it though. I bet you still get another 25k out of that thing without too many headaches. And at that point it’s basically paid off.
Not every decision in life is rational but I bet you could have a lot more fun rolling that cash into a vacation or something else.
My real problem with the presented scenario is someone is trading in a 3 year old car after experiencing the steepest of the depreciation curve.. why would you do that?!
yeah i have a Model S 60 and with more than 2 people, lowest common denominator bladder range is about 3 hours. Even with an ICE car I’d typically stop after 2 hours or so on a 4 hour trip just to break it up.
good idea. just make sure you’re well rested yourself.
Potato tech is coming soon.
your kids make it 6-7 hours without a rest stop?
Weight doesn’t impact your rolling resistance that much either. It’s drag that’s the killer at freeway speeds. So unless you’re towing 25% is an excessive discount on the range.
It’s even column shift!
Bluetooth AC & Radio knobs would be interesting. but those old Buicks with the touchscreens are pretty Jalop
200 miles is more than enough. I have a model S 60 that I’ve done 2500 mile road trips in and it works great. Unless you’re towing a trailer in a model X i’d save the money on buying a bunch of battery capacity you’ll almost never use.
Consider renting one on Turo for a weekend if you’re uncertain. though.
if we’re gonna count that way then you should probably count sales tax and tax rebates.
if it was brown we’d call it the jalopnik spec
Also wait to see what kind of markup volvo dealers slap on that baby. a Hyundai dealer is asking 8K over sticker.for a Kona.
A US Spec Sienna with prius Prime AWD powertrain would basically fill this niche. They even have recliners already. Not sure anyone’s going to pay $60k for it but they need to get on this so I don’t have to buy a damn Fiat Chrysler product..
Make it do elevator pitches
the problem with old LCs is they’re still pretty tippy. There’s only so much an active suspension is going to be able to do against the basic physics of the CG and wheelbase.
Stability control helps a bit but still, You’re probably better off in something more car based and modern if you wanna keep the shiny side up.…
hey as a weekend toy i can totally see it but you’d probably be safer happier and wealthier with a different daily like a used Highlander
2001 was the bad old days when SUVs still rolled over.
Also most of that drivetrain is made by LG so GM probably isn’t very interested in scaling up production unless they can screw them as hard as their other suppliers.
But yes, this should’ve been a Cadillac CUV (kind of like the Niro EV)
