Thinking a bit broader. If GM has a system that can detect distracted driving (texting etc.) why not add it as an option on lower end cars for teen drivers minus supercruise?

Production ramp is behind schedule and $35k price is dependent on economies of scale. No one is forcing them to hold on to their reservation and they’re free to go get a Bolt or an iPace.
adding AWD with a hybrid system would be pretty sweet all around.
Considering what’s happening in the Chinese market I can’t believe GM isn’t taking Buick all EV and bringing back the Electra. Come on people.
Alpha (Romeo) Male
As long as they’re waitlisted I don’t see it as a mistake. I’m sure most automakers put priority on heavily optioned models for early production.
I’ve raised this with some friends on the wait list. Especially since cars with vins after 50k are pretty solid. Even starting to see P85Ds depreciated down to model 3 money.
Some people just prefer a smaller car.
Hopefully you can avoid the cam gear issues
Seeing all the problems with these gives me a sad. They’re great on paper.
“But the company has added enough options to the car to have a version that starts at $78,000, or about $16,000 more than a base Model S.”
constant 2018 dollars
2003 F150 Lariat - 231 hp / 293 tq~ $39k
2018 F150 Lariat (2.7l ecoboost) -325hp / 400tq ~ $41k
A lariat is about the same inflation adjusted, but for similar equipment / capability you probably pay a lot less now. Not sure if the XL is comparable to an old lariat though but that’s sub $30k
Sounds like what GM did with the EV1
I have autopilot and I’d say the risk is more either falling asleep or completely checking out and playing with your phone.
Especially on long straight highways or in bumper to bumper traffic it’d be really tempting since it works pretty well in those situations.
Good news is, when you hit a firetruck, there are first responders close at hand
It’s ok. They just cheaped out on Mother’s day gifts.
It’s also more than a carbon tax would cost you.
“The 2019 E-Hybrid is better than both of those. It gets a power boost, for one thing making 455 horsepower from the combined work of a 3.0-liter turbo V6 and a 14.1 kWh electric motor,”
Is the motor 14.1 kW or the battery 14.1 kWh?
Do we know if this was an AP1 or AP2 car? I can’t see any camera in the B pillar but that could be the angle.
Remember these are German cars, $10k in options isn’t terribly hard to add.
