They probably can get away without the extra sensors if they’d invest a bit more time in training drivers to use the feature.

When I picked up my car they were like “here’s the stalk, 2 pulls and it’s on, enjoy your new car!”. There is a manual but they’re pretty coy about the limitations of the system. Since it is

Are these really “good deals” or are these cars just overpriced from the factory? $24k for a used long-roof golf sounds perhaps reasonable but hardly blows my skirt up.

Kinda hard to have a wage-price spiral if wages don’t go up.

Well, they cared about efficiency in the late 80s, the probelm was that tech wasn’t really there.

I always thought if the s2k had an overdrive 6th gear and an acura badge it would’ve survived in the market a lot better.

The aero difference between those two cars and the truck must be huge though, just in terms of frontal area. Cd on both wasn’t great though.

EPA ratings tend to be fairly accurate for normal driving in the US.
The European drive cycle is a joke though.

25 or 30, that’s downright amazing for a full sized truck.

The two gasoline cars I’ve owned were both sub 3000lbs and neither could muster much over 25MPG (E30 325is, S2000 AP1)

The CCS standard supports up to about 350KW (Tesla’s at about 120 max today) with the current spec. So it’ll be a while before they’re hitting that limit in widely deployed chargers.

Also that’s charging at 1000 miles of range per hour (approximately) so much faster than that probably gets exponentially more expensive

Yeah i’m kind of surprised the Traverse hasn’t gotten that treatment. I guess it’d compete with the Escaladae though.

The new explorer seems to be doing well with police.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the market spits in to more car like full sized SUVs and luxuried up half ton trucks for off road/farm/construction. Unless you really need that 3rd row and a huge tow rating that pretty much covers it unless someone figures out how to put

Yeah my guess is it’ll be one of those weird standards that lives on in Japan long after dying out everywhere else, kind of like minidisk.

Tesla did a pretty great job getting the Mennekes plug to work for supercharging but my guess is they’ll need bigger DC pins to go to much higher power. Meaning CCS.

For <10kw charging it’s called J1772 in North America, Mennekes in Europe. (I think Japan is J1772 as well). Unless you’re in the military it’s unlikely you’ll ever ship your car trans-oceanic anyway so not that big a deal these are different.

As for DC Fast charging, CCS seems to have pretty much won the standards

Also a bit problem with the Dealership sites is they may not be available after hours. I’ve heard of this happening with Nissan sites but perhaps Porsche will learn from their mistakes.

I’m willing to be convinced on the soundness of this financing, but 6% seems a bit too high for my taste.

Considering these things are likely to see relatively lower depreciation I could see someone looking at the opportunity cost of having that cash in a a car instead of an index fund and deciding to have their cake

I imagine the cost penalty vs the more expensive powertrains in an S-Class is also a lot less, especially after a couple more years of battery price reductions.

currently those are all 1/2 the speed of Supercharging or less. I haven’t even seen a 100kw non-tesla charger in the US yet.

Well and the competition is all a fair bit heavier, especially the challenger.

Outside of this guy, who’s not going to buy the camaro because it’s 300lbs too heavy?

To temper that a bit. I typically stay on the charger until I’ll have at least predicted 20% at arrival.
1) I drive a bit faster than the system predicts, this impacts range since wind resistance rises with the square of velocity.
2) Head winds or rain can really drag down your range for the same reason as above.
3)
