Reposted from Kotaku UK (who are making me proud with how civil they are in handling this whole issue. A civility that reflects on them as upstanding commentors and not on Patricia for having expressed a reasonable position):

because people like Patricia have decided that gaming is their own little niche in the world that hey are going to use as the playfield for pushing their personal agendas, the way some people make everything into a chance to rant t yo about abortion or guns or immigration.

I still find it silly to suggest that the first thing he should have done alongside his denial of said accusation is to open a discussion about consent. Like, he addresses consent, but I don't think starting some broader public debate on the matter is up there very high of priorities right now. I think he's probably

I actually think that had he opened up such dialogue, it would have made him seem guilty. It would have looked like he was redefining consent to his own benefit.

I agree. There is a considerable degree of backpedaling here. At least on Hernandez's part

I'm pretty sad DocSeuss's comment was not preserved in the original. He obviously put a lot of effort into the response, and it was the most level-headed opinion on her piece that accurately said what was wrong with the article and solutions as to how we should handle future situations.

I still don't understand why this is something "the gaming community should talk about." It has literally nothing to do with gaming except that the accused is a game designer, and frankly it's a meaningless detail. His occupation does not have any bearing. Do you have a statistic you're not sharing that says

Just apologize, guys. Patricia made a mistake and should own up to it directly. None of this "I'm sorry if you misinterpreted what I said" bullshit.

This revision is a better article. Though, it's unclear to me how the previous version was trying to convey this point. The previous article seemed to be an indictment of Mr. Temkin and faulting him for not apologizing for committing rape. That's why most people had a problem with it. Because it's "he said, she said"

Having read this revision, I'm still unclear why it's Temkin's responsibility to put a dialogue about consent before his own defense. If we're presuming him innocent we are also presuming him the victim of a particularly cruel and, as he correctly points out, permanent case of slander.

I... No, I'm not gonna comment on this one. Let's just say that I have yet to read an article from Ms. Hernandez that I would liked.

I like this revision much more. I agree that consent can be a difficult thing, especially with a lack of experience... But no, it certainly wasn't Temkin's obligation, duty, or responsibility to make that discussion happen. He was personally accused of rape, and defended himself from those charges. If he wanted to

Removing the comments (i.e. evidence) from the original article and whitewashing Patrica of all wrongdoing is completely unacceptable. She needs to apologize and just go back to writing Pokemon articles until she proves that she is responsible enough to handle serious discussion.

This update does help get Patricia's point across a little more, and I appreciate taking out a few of the biases that were strewn throughout the entirety of the previous version. But the fact still remains, this is not the type of forum to open this discussion in. If you want to write it in your own blog, that's

No it doesn't make any sense because they are referring to the woman as Thor. Thor isn't a title like Captain America, that's the guy's name. You don't become Thor by wielding the hammer, Thor is the name of the guy that wields the hammer. It's not about being worthy, or having nerve, it's literally adopting a guys

Nick Fury is suddenly white again. No reason.

Citing back problems, Black Widow gets breast reduction surgery.

Instead of swapping old characters Race/Gender/Sexual Orientation maybe Marvel (and DC) should create original characters from those backgrounds and promote them.

Tony Stark realizes his alcoholism stems from the lifelong frustration of being trapped in the wrong gender.

Falcon is one of the first black superheroes to rise to prominence in comics. He had his own identity, his own history, and more importantly was his own hero. By making him the new Captain America they are negating that. They are overshadowing his accomplishments as a original black hero. Now in pop culture he just
