Expect a New York Times trend piece in August.

Agree with you 100%. There's nothing wrong with 3D, there's nothing wrong with 2D, there's nothing wrong with stop-motion. But match the medium to what you're making! We've come up with different ways of making art for a reason, dammit.

You're not gonna like it because the fact that you're reading and commenting on an Internet article means you're in the 50% that's going to be brought down to the average, not the 50% that's going to be brought up.

I have some bad news.

Oh my goodness those lobster breads.

While I agree there's an element of arbitrariness in taxonomy, I don't think that makes it useless as a pursuit. Human beings are fundamentally wired to categorize and templatize things. If everything we measured scientifically was considered part of one big grouping, or each item was treated as a wholly unique case,

"Lishen... I know yer a ghost, man, but yer like... a really cool ghost. Like, I feel like yer my best friend, even though yer like, a ghost. hic Let'sh be best ghost friends forever, man."

"...but my friends just call me Chuck."

"Newest research sez"? Really?

A quick trawl through Paleofuture will show you that this is very much the case - inevitably, when we predict the look of "the future", what we're really doing is exaggerating and idealizing current visual trends. 1910s futures look an awful lot like the 1910s, 1960s futures look an awful lot like the 1960s, etc.

Oh for God's sake, people! Don't ask people out when they're at work, and don't ask people out when you're at work. This is basic stuff.

Hmm, looks like the Animus hasn't fully loaded the simulation yet.

I've heard Diana Deutsch talk about this illusion enough times that I can't even read the phrase "sometimes behave so strangely" without hearing the tune in my head.

Now playing

Everyone knows that Santa is originally from Turkey, and currently lives in Spain.

"HHMI Janelia Farms"? Yeah, right.

Taking a lame photograph in space is impossible.
