I doubt any of the management will read this letter and suddenly change their minds, but this letter will look absolutely terrible for their current legal defense of “But everything is fine now!”. All the State needs to do is enter this into evidence and ask A/B why a thousand of their current employees seem to…
I dunno; I tend to the think the actual intended audience for the letter is, well, us, more than the actual brass - I read it as more about putting even more external pressure on Activision, really. If nothing else, from an external perspective, it completely undercuts the notion of taking their ‘official’ responses…
Maybe not, but you also have to realize nothing is done in a vacuum. Look at it this way, this letter is being covered in the press and PR is the one thing they need right now, this is just adding another coin to the scale to make them hurt enough to change.
Also worth noting that he just sort of implies that he was new and inexperienced in these situations at the time by saying “I have more experience now.” But then he goes on to say “I have been doing it [talking to players as a dev] for 23 years plus or minus. I still make mistakes. It happens.” So this is him with 12…
Yeah, if he had immediately swapped to “But seriously,” followed by a real answer that addressed her concerns, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Someone else pointed out that he seemed to be feeding off the crowd, which I think is true, too.
That being said, the fact that he apparently left one giant company with…
It's hard to take that apology seriously when he moves from one nest of mysogyny to another...
Ah, what a hetero-patriarchal society with companies like ActiBlizzard perpetuate and settle in the stew of. I hate it.
And, unfortunately, future.
Once the men in the crowd started booing, you can see the panel become emboldened to start making fun of her. The boys club of video gaming is disgusting.
“I didn’t realize we made someone feel bad because I couldn’t see her face,” doesn’t really hold water for me, because the entire smug, self-satisfied, smarmy tone that they had was clearly intended to make someone feel bad.
Jesus is that clip heartbreaking, you can see the exact frame she loses all faith in blizzard and then gives that small laugh just because that’s what is expected of her, everything that happened and is happening at ActiBlizzard is horrifying no one, much less women should ever be treated like this. Fuck you, ActiBlizz…
I am not sure if more laws will help, they need to have real teeth, potentially going into criminal charges.
It’s not separate at all. How you got rich is a very intricate part of being rich.
The point is in the how they got hugely successful. They’re fundamentally linked.
He helped create hugely successful games. He got rich. It’s not rocket science.
He was able to retire at 42 on the backs of those below him. As another commenter pointed out, he likely justified the millions he made at Blizzard because of his amazing leadership. These same leaders that simultaneously and mysteriously have “the privileges of not noticing what is happening” in their company.
She's preaching to the denier, not the choir.
Weird how these guys' egos got hurt from your article XD Thanks for this note, mate, cause F GG
You clearly have a very interesting perspective. Could you elaborate on how my ego issues are manifest in this article, to the degree that they are the only reason this article exists?
