What does distance have to do with anything in an age of Skype and social networking? Plenty of British students jet off to Australia and New Zealand (distance from London to Sydney is 10,553 miles) with no cult awaiting them downunder to act as a 'family substitute' ;-)

Yep! But supermarkets have amazing reductions on things they need to sell that day, so students tend to stock up on things reduced to a quarter of their price.

Haaa. The dainty flower; I had forgotten all about it. Que chique, gente ;-)

Unfortunately groceries are one area where student discounts do not apply :'(

Oh OK, it's not that different from UK universities in that case. When I read 'cafeteria' I thought that US students were exclusively fed and watered by the University, which I thought was a little strange ;)

But are students able to cook for themselves in their accommodation?

Cafeteria!? Are US universities catered?

In Brazil women get French fuckin' pedicures! :'( And they always wear awful cork wedges that are bit too small so the toes really hang over, with the awful pedicure on show.

I just don't understand how the rest of the world manages not to get need campus cults (sororities/fraternities) to get over the shock of living alone for the first time. The whole system of frats/sororities is so fucking WEIRD to my English brain.

HIV is bad for the immune system. Showering daily is not. I can't envision showering every day impacting on CD4 count?

Sweet Jesus of Nazareth, she's so beautiful I can't even handle it.

Are we talking about the showering habits of whites/non-whites in the US alone? Because I grew up in Brazil, where Brazilians of all races shower around twice a day and feel disgust towards Europeans and North Americans, who they believe only shower once or twice a week.

I am at a loss to explain why anyone gives a flying fuck about her. Has she ever said anything noteworthy? Ever? About anything?

I really, really, really despise her.

Maybe it's because I've been getting more into my Adorno of late, but I genuinely believe she is emblematic of nearly everything that I despise about contemporary capitalist society. I would go as far as calling her a social cancer. Seriously.

I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago. I'd never even heard of it before. It was absolutely mesmerising; a growing sense of dread that reaches an insane crescendo at the very end. Really, really fucking good!

Andy is so gross :(

An 'unabashed racist'? Is she a member of the KKK?

I think you're right re: women being negatively affected by divorce, and I think there's nothing wrong with women who have been married for many years continuing a lifestyle to which they've become accustomed, once divorced.

Having grown up in that environment of super wealthy families, I don't know where you get the idea that super rich 'housewife' women tend provide labour that enables the husband to do his work.
